Great article about the importance of teaching the full complexity of history in the UK. The change we need is to make the subject compulsory up to 16 - at least. www.theguardian.com/education/20...

The full full shock of the Green vote this afternoon has sunk in a bit. The degree to which such a vote requires a monolithic and prejudiced view of Jews is a tragic and shameful irony.

Great statement by the leaders of Progressive Judaism. The adoption of guilt by association is particularly disturbing, since it suggests a total inability to understand Jewish individuality.

This is depressing. If you are against antisemitism, I am afraid it is now impossible to vote Green. What is happening in Gaza is genocide and in the West Bank ethnic cleansing, at minimum. That does NOT mean that Zionism is racism, or — ffs — that attending a Zionist synagogue makes you a racist*

Marina Hyde at her most brusquely scathing about Farage’s inability to keep his mouth shut. Ideal with morning coffee. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Anyone who judges that this intemperate psychological liability should have access to the nuclear codes and other top-level information must have a subconscious wish for their answer to the question “where do you see yourself in five years’ time?” to be “living in Britain’s catacombs and distilling drinking water from my own urine”. It’s unclear whether a Prime Minister Farage would just bottle everything or shoot first and ask questions later, but the most likely metaphorical outcome in any given scenario may well be him shooting the wrong person first, then refusing to answer questions later.

An excellent example of how poorly understood the My Lai Massacre remains, 60 years on. The only real breakdown of command and control occurred when individual GIs refused to open fire on unarmed civilians. Everybody else did what they had been ordered to do... RNLI steps up security after attacks by far-right agitators over small boat rescues
Volunteers told to consider not wearing branded clothing and to shut lifeboat stations if they feel in danger * Police working to protect RNLI in Dorset amid opposition to small boat rescues The RNLI is stepping up security after a backlash from far-right agitators over the lifeboat charity’s involvement in rescuing asylum seekers in the Channel and landing them on UK shores. Volunteers have been told by the charity’s bosses that they should consider not wearing RNLI branded clothing if they feel this might put them at risk. Continue reading...
