More underwater footage from Terrigal on Darkinjung Country, NSW Central Coast. Although the water is only just starting to warm up, there is so much new life out there - including mating sharks and stacks of fish recruitment. Hope you enjoy it! youtu.be/QK0h6Jm0zyM

Another video from Terrigal, on the New South Wales Central Coast. There's a lot happening, including a bully blue grouper, fish getting parasites and things cleaned off them, other fish feeding along the sand, and plenty of threatened grey nurse sharks. I hope you enjoy it! youtu.be/B57fmDIpBRQ

(2/2) By February the following year, the grasses has greened up from summer rains, but a large flood mid-year really brought the local rivers and floodplains back to life, and the channel looked stunning by November. Looking forward to seeing it this November, after a second large mid-year flood!

What a difference a bit of rain (pula) makes: 2024 was a very dry year across southern Africa, and northern Botswana was no exception. The Thamalakane River where I take student groups was almost bone-dry, even after the small mid-year flood. (1/2)

Happy Sir Seretse Khama Day to my Batswana friends and colleagues! Sir Seretse was the first President of the Republic of Botswana after its 1966 independence. If you want to learn a bit more about that fascinating period of history, the movie 'A United Kingdom' is a great watch. Pula #Botswana!

The diamond pythons in the ceiling at work have been quite active this week. I guess they must be sorting out their upcoming winter abodes with the cooler weather. Sooks! And, here's one I prepared earlier...in the garden outside my office window several months ago.

In dry landscapes, you need to safeguard every bit of growth in order to survive. So, plants need some serious defense mechanisms. Not an ideal place to fall over in or to have your arm swiped when filming out the car window (apparently 😉)! Khomas Mountains, central #Namibia

Visitors to #Botswana always want to see lions, leopards, or other large iconic wildlife. But, the cutest, most serendipitous, and (for me) a new species sighting from last year was an acacia rat, Thallomys paedulcus. Spotted by an eagle-eyed student peering out from a tree hollow at Xakanaxa.
