My book is out today!!! ✨ New Materialist Encounters with the Borderline has been my strange, unstable, unwieldy baby these past 8 years - odd to see it become crystallised, simultaneously more and less real… www.routledge.com/New-Material...

Immensely proud of my partner @drflewis.bsky.social for finally seeing the publication of her book. Challenging, bold, and really going for something. If you’re in any way interested in new materialist philosophy or psychology you should try and check this out via your library/academic institution

My new book draws on neuroqueer approaches and feminist new materialist philosophy to highlight the potential of the unstable knowledges produced in the borderland.

Yet in new materialist philosophy, these very traits take on a totally different valence: life is a flow of intensities, with fluid boundaries, without fixed properties or identities, operating in a rhizomatic (non-linear, unpredictable) manner.

Like a kaleidoscope or the shimmering surface of iridescence, borderline experience can be characterised by constant shifting flux. The diagnostic category arose from a need to categorise the uncategorisable and pathologise the indeterminate.

So many England and Union flags out all over the place in York today, it’s a bit like being back in Glasgow. Makes it easier to spot your racist neighbours though I guess. Reminded of this Fugazi lyric: “We draw lines and stand behind them That's why flags are such ugly things”

After the trans rights protest in York this afternoon - a beautiful show of collective resistance which made me feel proud to live here and be part of this community - I just keep thinking of the trans and non-binary people I saw weeping in fear and despair - some strangers, some people I love. 🏳️‍⚧️

Definitely! Even Vast & Boundless sneaks in the story about going to the city and all that, that’s a little mini romance - and that one in less of a scary apocalyptic way than the others (if I’m remembering it right). You’re a (not so) secret romantic!

Given how much I talk IRL you’d think I’d love a platform like this. Turns out that talking to no one in particular and therefore Everyone in the World yet simultaneously Literally Yourself is not as easy as they make it look. Schrödinger’s audience.

Here I am moonlighting way outside my discipline (as if I had a discipline lol) with my take on Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria. 🩰🧙🩸 In the chapter I talk about affect, entanglement, embodiment, and the horror of agency Feeling very grateful for such incredibly patient and thoughtful editors. 🫶
