Understand that “trading” apps like Polymarket or Kalshi are not allowing people to gamble. They’re actively there to fleece users. The information shown are algorithmically generated. It’s not random chance. When you go to a casino, the cards dealt are random. Not true for any online gaming app.

Across the Rio Grande in Mexico are towns that have dental clinics. They completely dot the area along the river. Their patients/customers are almost all Americans. People from TX, NM, AZ, CA, OK and others are going there because dental care there is better and cost a quarter of US dental care.

Actually, all basic technologies go down in price over time. And political leaders should understand that. Digital storage went down from $1/MB in the mid-1990s to, well, I go to tech conferences and they hand out 20GB USB thumb drives for free.

My typical grocery purchase: veggies: romaine, arugula, carrots, mushrooms, tomatoes, avocados, zucchini… dairy: half-half, yogurt, cottage cheese. Proteins: salmon or beef or pork or chicken. Carbs: rice, pasta, lentils, bulgur wheat, or something similar. Cook then eat. Few pre-made meals.

What I am currently reading: 1) The Scarlet Letter - Hawthorne. It’s a tough slog. Just getting past the forward is like wading through mud. 2) Enshittification - Doctorow. It’s apparent to me that I prefer non-fiction to fiction. This book is a must read.

These proposed huge data centers? They’re huge to justify insane valuations. Investors want huge valuations for their investments. They’re willing to drop $1B at Series A to get at $50B valuation. It’s just a shell game. The first group of investors cash out and others are left holding the bag.
