Even AI sees the problems and solutions that conservatives are blind to.
A question to ChatGPT and its response.

What changes would you make to the current United States government to ensure success for all citizens?

If I were to make changes to the U.S. government with the aim of ensuring success for all citizens, I'd focus on several areas that address inequality, improve sustainability, and create a more participatory and transparent political system. Here's what I would propose:

1. Campaign Finance Reform
Eliminate Money in Politics: Political influence shouldn’t be bought. I would push for a system that eliminates super PACs, dark money, and big corporate donations. Public financing of campaigns, with strict limits on private donations, would ensure that elected officials serve the people, not special interests.
Transparency: All political donations and spending would be fully transparent, allowing citizens to track exactly where money is coming from and going.
2. Universal Healthcare
Medicare for All: The U.S. has the resources to provide universal healthcare. I’d push for a national healthcare system that guarantees access to affordable care for everyone, removing the barriers to good health that many face today.
Focus on Preventative Care: Shifting the focus from reactive care to preventive care and mental health support could improve long-term health outcomes and reduce costs over time.
3. Education Reform
Free Higher Education: I’d work to make higher education, especially at public universities and technical schools, tuition-free. This would help reduce student debt and provide opportunities for all citizens to access education, regardless of their financial background.
Universal Early Childhood Education: High-quality early education for all children should be a priority, as it's a critical factor in reducing inequality and promoting long-term success.
Curriculum Overhaul: Emphasize critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and real-world problem-solving over rote memorization. Education should prepare students for the co…4. Economic System and Job Guarantee
Universal Basic Income (UBI): In an era where automation and AI are changing the workforce, a UBI could provide financial stability for everyone, ensuring that people can meet their basic needs and pursue meaningful work without the constant fear of economic collapse.
Job Guarantee Programs: A federal job guarantee could ensure that everyone has access to work, particularly for those in struggling communities. These jobs would focus on infrastructure, renewable energy projects, healthcare, and education—creating jobs that benefit society as a whole.
Worker-Owned Cooperatives: I'd also create incentives for worker-owned cooperatives and community-based businesses, empowering citizens to have a stake in the economic system.
5. Criminal Justice Reform
End Mass Incarceration: Reform the criminal justice system to reduce racial and class disparities. This would include decriminalizing certain non-violent offenses, addressing the root causes of crime (like poverty and lack of education), and focusing on rehabilitation over punishment.
Police Accountability: Establish independent oversight boards for police departments, strengthen use-of-force policies, and ensure that law enforcement agencies reflect the communities they serve. This would help rebuild trust between citizens and the police.
6. Environmental Sustainability
Green New Deal: Implementing a Green New Deal would focus on transitioning to renewable energy, modernizing infrastructure, and creating sustainable jobs in green industries. The government should prioritize policies that fight climate change while investing in long-term sustainability.
Carbon Pricing and Regulation: A carbon tax or cap-and-trade system could hold corporations accountable for their environmental impact, while encouraging businesses to innovate in green technologies.
Conservation Efforts: Strengthening the protection of public lands, oceans, and biodiversity would ensure that future generations inherit …7. Electoral Reform
Ranked-Choice Voting: Implementing ranked-choice voting would encourage more diverse political candidates and reduce the harmful effects of partisanship and the "two-party system." It gives voters more choice and ensures that elected officials have majority support.
Gerrymandering Reform: Establish independent redistricting commissions to eliminate gerrymandering and ensure fair representation.
Voting Access: Expand voting access by implementing automatic voter registration, making Election Day a national holiday, and expanding mail-in voting. Voting should be as accessible as possible to ensure that every citizen has a voice.
8. Social Safety Nets and Equity
Universal Paid Leave: Implement universal paid family and sick leave to support working families and promote a healthier, more productive workforce.
Affordable Housing: Focus on policies that ensure affordable housing is available for all, including rent control measures and investment in housing for low-income individuals and families.
Racial and Economic Justice: Address systemic racism and inequality by increasing investment in historically marginalized communities, focusing on education, healthcare, and infrastructure in underserved areas.
9. Technology and Privacy
Regulation of Big Tech: Stronger regulation of big tech companies to protect user privacy, ensure data transparency, and prevent monopolies from stifling competition.
Digital Literacy: Invest in programs to improve digital literacy so citizens can navigate the modern information landscape, understand issues like misinformation, and use technology responsibly.10. Foreign Policy and Global Cooperation
Diplomatic Focus: Shift foreign policy to be more cooperative and focused on global issues like climate change, poverty, and human rights. Diplomacy should be the first line of defense, not military intervention.
Fair Trade: Create trade policies that benefit workers, reduce inequality, and protect the environment, rather than focusing solely on corporate profits.
In essence, I’d focus on creating a more equitable society, ensuring that everyone has access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. This would require a cultural shift, too—one where empathy, cooperation, and long-term thinking take priority over short-term profits and political gamesmanship. What changes do you think would make the biggest difference?

Since big tech is now leading the country into an authoritarian capitalist dystopia, I thought maybe I'd see what their own tool thinks government should do. Seems they are in disagreement. Point 3 is of particular interest to me. It's time the people had a more direct say in their government.

Hey GPT - if you were to create a new country, what sort of system of government would you use to ensure maximum long term success?

Hey! That’s an interesting thought experiment. If I were to create a new country and aim for long-term success, I’d probably lean toward a hybrid system that combines elements of democracy with a strong focus on sustainability and adaptability. Here's what it could look like:

Democratic Governance with Strong Institutions: A representative democracy where citizens elect leaders, but with a system that places heavy emphasis on checks and balances. There would be multiple branches of government to prevent any one branch from becoming too powerful. Importantly, an independent judiciary would ensure that laws are fair and just, and that no government action undermines fundamental rights.

A Constitution Based on Ethical Principles: A core set of guiding ethical principles—like universal human rights, environmental sustainability, and social equity—would serve as the foundation of the constitution. This would allow for flexibility in governance while keeping the country grounded in values that protect citizens' well-being and the planet's health.

Participatory Democracy: Beyond just electing representatives, there could be regular opportunities for citizens to participate directly in key decisions, using technology to enable voting on important national issues. This would ensure that the government remains responsive to the people and is more dynamic.Long-Term Planning Committees: A system of governance could also include long-term planning committees composed of experts in various fields like climate change, economics, education, and public health. These committees would assess trends, potential challenges, and opportunities 20, 30, or even 50 years into the future, ensuring that policy-making doesn’t just focus on short-term political gains.

Sustainability and Environmental Focus: Every major policy decision would need to undergo an "environmental and social impact" review to ensure that it doesn't harm future generations. A green economy, with strong investments in renewable energy, eco-friendly infrastructure, and sustainable agriculture, would be central to the country's development.

Education and Innovation: A high priority on education and research would be key to success. Not just in terms of academic achievement, but also fostering creativity, critical thinking, and social responsibility. The country would invest heavily in both education and innovation, ensuring that the next generation is equipped to adapt and solve future challenges.

Global Cooperation: While the country would have strong local governance, it would also emphasize global cooperation. As many issues (climate change, economic inequality, etc.) are transnational, the country would engage in diplomatic efforts, foster trade, and work toward global solutions.

Economic System Based on Wellbeing: Rather than focusing on GDP growth as the primary indicator of success, the economy would be measured by indicators like quality of life, happiness, access to healthcare, and environmental health. Universal access to basic needs (food, shelter, education, healthcare) would be prioritized.
