Laptop case died. Time for new stickies.
A collage of stickers on the back of a MacBook Pro, including: a logo for the ability student group at the Paul g Allen school; a park punks meetup sticker, a g666gle sticker, a pink Nintendo ds with am eyeball demon coming out of it, hatsune miku, a pink flying saucer picking up a cow, a morelitea sticker, and “no one is illegal” in Dutch.

Working on a personal project I was going through hell with CORS and my backend dev was struggling to fix it on the Koa server. I went into the server code and moved koa/cors from api.ts to server.ts and that seemed to fix my problem. Now I can load API data from my Vite app. #codeinpublic

I bought some Dutch licorice while I was on Granville Island from the Licorice Parlor. My only regret is I only bought 300 grams and not 3 kilograms.
A big clear bag of Dutch licorice on a countertop. There is a sticker that says, “Licorice Parlor” in blue text on a pink and green background. Behind the bag is a display of licorice in many colors.

Today I got some display cables and an Ethernet adapter. This is more or less the final setup!
A photograph of a desk with two monitors on it and a desktop tower below. The desktop is running Ubuntu and there is a terminal window with system information on it. The wallpaper is art of a vapor wave style moon with mountains in a purple hue and the valley has a grid overlaid on it suggesting it is a simulation.

The IO shield would not fit into the thermaltake case no matter how hard I tried. I even tried scraping some of the paint off and bending down the shield with pliers. Nothing worked at this step. #designfail Good thing I found a case on OfferUp that actually works with my components!
IO shield next to the case, it should just fit. IO shield almost in the case, with one corner not popping in. Metal spudger I was using to scrape the paint off the case. IO shield, almost in, but not staying put and flexing very hard.

Built a PC out of mostly used/free parts. It’s pretty fast and I’m happy with it. Gonna move my #homelab over to it soon. Next step will be getting some hard drives and an NVME boot drive. I hate #e-waste and micro$oft obsoleting good hardware worked out in my favor for this build. #DIY
A photograph of a bunch of pc parts sitting on a coffee table. They are plugged in and running. There is a power supply, motherboard with RGB fan, a graphics card, and a monitor in the background. There is also a white case that ended up not working out due to IO shield incompatibility. The PC, assembled in a black and red compatible case with some glass to show the RGB fan spinning. Benchmarks from the PC in blender on Ubuntu. Samples per minute rendering:
Monster, 47.4
Junkshop, 32.8

Went on a work trip to Maine and explored downtown Portland. First time on the east coast and I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to next time.
A photograph of an intersection with a wedge shaped building. In the foreground is a street light which displays the word, “free”, in the background is the building. It is dusk in this photo. A photograph of a statue in downtown Portland. There is a steel man in a robe on top of the statue and below is cement reading, “Portland, to her sons who would have died for the Union”A photograph of the author of this post. They are standing in front of an alleyway. The author has brown hair, blue eyes, some scruff and is smiling candidly. They are wearing a black jacket and tortoise shell patterned glasses. A photograph of a clock wall. The clocks are shaped like animals and are in many bright colors. They are painted with animal features like eyes and they have a tail hanging from the bottom.

Updating LineageOS the old fashioned way using adb and fastboot. It worked! Giving the phone away to someone in need. I will miss 12 (music player) and the headphone jack though. Hopefully it is happy in its new home. @lineageos.org thanks for the mmrs. 😎
A macbook air running ubuntu connected over USB to a google pixel phone. They are both sitting on a dark brown wooden coffee table. The phone shows the lineage OS recovery screen in purple and black. There are terminal commands being executed below. On the computer is some open browser tabs with a terminal window open in front. The terminsl window shows progress with the flashing of the updated ROM.

I was working on improving a contact form for a website I manage and everything worked on localhost, but was failing in prod. I thought my code was bad. But it turned out my server was running an old php version. Upgrade php and solved. 😄
Screenshot of the contact form for therapy with Diana in dark mode on a phone. The page shows a contact form asking for first name, last name, email, phone number, an open text field, and a submit button. The fields are equal width and stacked vertically.

Always remember to 𝚜𝚞𝚍𝚘 𝚊𝚙𝚝 𝚞𝚙𝚍𝚊𝚝𝚎 before you 𝚜𝚞𝚍𝚘 𝚊𝚙𝚝 𝚒𝚗𝚜𝚝𝚊𝚕𝚕 otherwise you will end up with this screen. Fortunately I was able to update the computer in a TTY session and reinstall the GUI. #Linux #Ubuntu

Just got my first websockets connection running using python. Stay tuned for more exciting updates! I will be rolling this out to do metadata push from the Pacifica Confessor API. #BuildInPublic #CommunityRadio #websockets
A screenshot of the Zed.dev text editor, with a similar layout to VSCode. There is a frame with a server log showing a successful connection to my websocket, a terminal on the bottom with my websocket closed, and a helpful AI agent explaining how to use websockets.

Any Wordpress devs have experience with using Barba.js to prevent certain portions of the theme from reloading? I am planning a web player for the KBCS website that lives inside of the header and want to allow it to stay persistent while people navigate the site. #wpdev #cms #barba #wordpress
KBCS website screenshot of the mobile homepage. There is a floating audio player in the KBCS theme colors of green, brown, and white at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for letting me be one of the groomsmen @brody.technofuckingfeudalism.com. It was also nice to see you @marckskier.bsky.social I’m so glad to have y’all in my family. 💕

I’ve been tinkering around with building a web player for Pacifica Streaming Services using their API. Put the starter code up on GitHub this morning too. I built this in vanilla HTML, JS, and CSS using the @zed.dev text editor. github.com/andrewpking/...
A screenshot of a chrome browser tab playing a music program from KBCS. It is playing “roots rock & soul” a music mix hosted by Iaan Hughes from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. The window has a CD cover in the background, the name of the program at the top, and a translucent box over the CD with details about the program. At the bottom is text saying, “Now Streaming KBCS” and below that is a MiniPlayer with a pause button, a duration of playback, a scrub-able slider to change the playback position, and a volume control. The colors scheme for this UI consists of blacks, medium blues, and white. The visual style is reminiscent of Zune music players.

I’ve been coding again. This tool I’m building fulfills an access need for me when reading dense documents and literature. I won’t spill the tea on what it does or how it works until I’m further along though. At least i have a proof of concept now that runs free of errors. #buildinpublic #a11y
A photograph of a grey MacBook with VSCode editor open. There is a file hierarchy on the right side, some code that call Anthropic API on the center top, a terminal with error messages followed by working code that is loading center bottom. On the left is a chat history with copilot, which gave bad advice to me so I read docs instead.

Made deviled eggs for the first time. #nailedit Next time less salt and mayonnaise. Also balsamic vinegar is a poor substitute for apple cider vinegar if you don’t have it. Now, back to designing in Figma for work.

Got some old tech from @marckskier.bsky.social so I’ve been messing with #FOSS on it. Ripped some old CDs to FLAC and put them on an iPod running rockbox firmware. It’s been a fun project. Been using Ubuntu on a MacBook to manage the library. All I needed was a new battery for the laptop.

Does anyone here have experience creating a custom feed? I'm trying to implement one in typescript using the template provided on github but I'm running into issues once it is deployed. I DO NOT have my own custom hostname. I just want to host it via bluesky. #ATProtocoal @bsky.app #WebDev
