PSA: "Dark Sorcery" is a bit different from my other AU side comic, "Dark Science High," in that you don't actually have to have read Dark Science to pick it up. It's a fully contained dark fantasy miniseries! dresdencodak.com/2026/09/20/d...

Wait, no I completely forgot. This is the actual character design that dominated my childhood: Eowyn from the Rankin-Bass Return of the King. There was nobody cooler on Earth.

It wasn't until I wanted to do a direct Mignola homage that I realized how easily the Force flowed through me when drawing like that 😅

Honestly not even joking, a core theme in Dungeon Meshi is the characters learning that Falin has grown up and is her own person, and textually a lot of that is "independent woman who's terminally horny for Marcille"

Dungeon Meshi is probably my favorite modern manga, but the one thing it's missing is at no point is there a later chapter where Marcille & Falin just go to town on each other. I'm talking property damage, mysterious fires, animals howling one town over, etc. It would really have fit the story.

One of my favorite things about writing Elith is how they have an assortment of unrelated skills (music, martial arts, sleight-of- hand, etc) but they're also convinced of their own uselessness.

One is an early 90s movie about a deranged, antisocial person who's incapable of functioning in society and trying to somehow insert himself back into his old life with increasingly freakish disguises and the other is Darkman.

It's important to me that my protagonists are all criminals. Kim's broken more laws than I can count, Ling's a left-wing terrorist/bank robber, Elith's beaten up cops, and Melchior's literally a professional villain. But they're indisputably the Good Guys in this capitalist hellscape.

Xiaoling: "But we'll have food soon! Sirius is getting pizza."

Kim: "Don't like that dog man"

Xiaoling: "...I know. We don't have to stay for long."

Ling: "I like an ancient therapsid as much as the next, but my heart fossilized in the Cretaceous."

Kim: "Yeah, it's the best! Favorite dinosaur?"

Ling: "T. Rex."

Kim: "Shocking!"

Ling: "I know, I know, but it's not for the obvious reasons."

Ling: "Beneath the fearsome exterior is a highly intelligent and adaptable animal. These were nurturing parents with complex social relationships. Just because you're scary doesn't mean you have a soft side."

Kim: "Scary things with a soft side are cute."

Ling: "How about you?"

My comic art has a reputation for having a lot of detail, but I think it just comes off that way because my pages are big. I'm frequently very loose and gestural!
