Promising this as a *possibility* with AI is just an arbitrary driver to continue support for AI so that Bezos & co. can continue to cut labour, maximizing their profits. We need to be very wary of any promise of an AI future lest we continue to line the pockets of our corporate overlords.

He’s saying that good works don’t save us, reconfiguring how Christians ought to understand righteousness (ie, it comes from participating in Christ). Good works are possible, but only though the grace infused by said participation. It’s all an extension of his 95 theses.

With the crisis of precarity hitting academia, will places like AAR survive, or will they continue to price contingent scholars out? I’m one of the lucky ones who has a (small) PD budget and it’s verging on unaffordable, even with better foresight.

Last month, I paid just over $500CAD for SSCE, which included the conference, room, board, and an annual membership. In June, CTS charged members $100CAD for a three day conference with lunch and one dinner included. I love AAR but there are better ways to do this!

I was looking into the possibility of a last-minute trip to AAR, and between late registration and the dollar exchange I’d be paying over $800CAD for registration alone! My fault for wanting to register late, sure, but no conference is worth that, never mind the cost of flights + room + board.
