ME/CFS is a devastating condition that has long been denied, dismissed, psychologised and underdiagnosed. Research is at last starting to catch up with it, with glimmers of hope for those who have been left untreated for so long. There's a huge BUT coming ...🧵 www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Did you know that the partner and family of a person applying for assisted suicide under Kim Leadbeater’s new law will never be told about the person's intentions and will have no way whatsover to intervene, even if they know the person is making a bad or impulsive decision? 1/2

Indeed, partners or family members could be guilty of a criminal offence if they try to persuade a person not to go ahead with a medically-assisted suicide. This isn't compassion for dying people, it's a ruthlessly imposed ideological death regime. Tell your MP to say no. 2/2

The scale of the risk means we need to stop blaming women for "ignoring red flags" when men turn out to be controlling and abusive partners

Victims-survivors are often disbelieved for seeming happy during a time when they later say their partner was abusive. These disbelieving reactions would be different if people more fully understood what coercive control is and how it works. Read my new article: dremmakatz.substack.com/p/9-r…

Victim-survivor mothers are often told to 'get over' the abuse post-separation, 'move on', and 'be nice' when, in fact, the perpetrator is still actively abusing them and their children. It is deeply unfair and unjust. Read my new article: dremmakatz.substack.com/p/how…

Blackmail is a powerful tool for abusers. They may threaten to expose private photos, secrets, or personal info to force you back. Their goal is to instill fear & coerce compliance, keeping you trapped. #CoerciveControl

With these plotlines, #CalltheMidwife is joining in populist attacks on disabled and clinically vulnerable people, who are among the most vulnerable and deprived minorities. This show is supposed to support the underdog, not kick them when they are down.

Dr Emma Katz @dremmakatz.bsky.social · 25/02/2025
Episode 7, season 14 of #CalltheMidwife attacked disabled people with a plot where a woman faked being bedbound and faked needing care. This is in line with decades of government attacks on disabled people who need benefits, despite PIP disability benefit fraud actually being near zero. 2/2

#CalltheMidwife is becoming such a disappointment. The left leaning show has adopted right wing stances that attack disabled people. The 2024 Christmas special's Turner family storyline made a thinly veiled attack on the C0VID-careful community and people who wear masks. 1/2

People who know about bird flu: I have a question. In the UK eggs are not washed. We have a different process than the USA. Does this mean bird flu could be on UK egg shells? Should we use a lot of caution touching uncooked eggs still in their shells? Thanks.

Because the concept of PA relies on the idea of ignoring children's stated wishes. Say you are a child who fears your abusive dad. That dad claims your mum used PA. If professionals accept that, the more you protest & say no, the more the professionals will push you to engage with your abusive dad.

I've visited six hospitals this week. I've actually seen more people in masks than I have in 18 months. But most of the masks have been ones that aren't designed to protect against spread of airborne disease. They're not the solution. We need to use the right tools for the job.

If I could help non disabled people understand one thing about being disabled, it would be how important maintaining a baseline is. When you’re chronically ill, your baseline is everything. Even minor setbacks can be catastrophic, so we have to do a risk analysis before literally ANY activity 🧵

JD Vance spearheaded a federal ban on mask mandates. He said it was “a massive victory for personal freedom in this country.” So wear a mask because JD doesn’t want you to. Wear a mask to make them harder to ban. Wear a mask as a form of community care, solidarity and resistance.

Choices are power. That is why no abuser will ever give you decisions or choices to make, not really. Even victim-survivor knows that when their abuser "gives" them a choice, it's not a choice, it's a trap. What you can't do is fall for it where you try to find the "right" one, because let me+

When I do access training, I say 'find out the venue's emergency plan for disabled attendees/performers. Then make your own bc it's likely "leave them in stairwell and hope they're still alive when the fire is done"'. People assume disabled people are accounted for in emergency planning. We're not.
