Sinks. Why would anyone install a sink/faucet combo where you can’t reasonably fit your hand under the faucet without smashing your knuckles against the back of the sink? Is this just a me problem? I just want to wash my hands without having an intimate connection with the local plumbing.

I’d like to market a brand of water called “Catpaw” for people who leave glasses of water around their home. Catpaw consumers won’t have to wonder if their feline friends sampled their beverages when the glass was unattended because they already know. It’s Catpaw.

I just had the brilliant idea of creating a custom sized Post-it note that would fit on the back of my phone. I was so proud of myself for this new invention- oh, the riches! Then I realized, and you might be there already, my phone is essentially a big Post-it note. Back to the drawing phone.

My sweetie and I went into town (downtown Santa Fe) yesterday for his birthday lunch. The number of ppl cosplaying as cowpeople was a little ridiculous. Never in my life, and I am from here, have I thought, “this outfit needs a red bandana tied around my neck and a big ugly hat.”

Oh hai. If you are writing an NIH grant and you have a cool graphic or model and you are thinking, I’ll just make it a little smaller because the reviewers are getting them as pdfs and can see the images as big as they want… don’t. Too small is still too small. Can’t see. Wasted space, tiny words.

The guy in front of me in the TSA line had a reflex hammer with him in his carry-on, which he took out and put in the bin separately. Like he is used to being stopped and searched because his reflex hammer raises red flags on the scanner. So many questions.

My big achievement today was getting out of bed before 8am. Then I ate my breakfast and made it to my desk before 9am. Long COVID is not going to win today. I also took a few minutes to play with the cats because they are people too. (I used to be a morning person, but COVID changed that).

One of my biggest fears is that our international allies believe American citizens are complicit- that the news has been suppressed and the images of the gigantic anti-Trump demonstrations aren’t making it out of the US borders. We need our allies to intervene. This is untenable.

It seems so unfair that the world our young adults know is so uncertain. They see such a different future than I envisioned for them. I never could have imagined they would experience a global pandemic, a dictator’s rise to power, and authoritarian rule in their young lives. Oh, and climate change.

I learned such a powerful lesson that day- I learned that I could do more than I believed I could, especially when I have the courage to share my fears. It’s okay to be scared. It’s okay to feel like you will give up, but make sure you let others know so they can lift you up.

When I shared my weakness, others gave me strength. When I became vulnerable, others gave me courage. Just a few minutes later, my baby was born. He was healthy and perfect. He still is, 21 years later.

Instantly, the team jumped into action. They didn’t judge me at all, instead their cheers grew louder. They got out a mirror so I could see my baby as he was crowning. Their coaching was more instructive and directed. Somebody grabbed my hand, which gave me more strength.

I remember this so vividly- there was this moment where I thought, oh crap. This is too much. I can’t do this. I am scared and I just don’t have the energy and strength to get through this. The pain is just too much and I am beat.

Everything progressed smoothly and it comes time to push. I push for about an hour and the baby is slowly making his way out, but I was getting really worn out. The pain was really intense and I had been doing my best but it was so hard.
