I made a PG-13 Hound for a ttrpg character, and then being a fan of the show, I realized, "Wait, this is just Violet Evergarden. Plus a few elements from Signalis and NieR: Automata." My one qualm with the series is that the finale movie is entirely terrible. Gilbert should've stayed dead.

Dexterity accounts for technical skill, though, not just coordination and reflexes, and most holds and throws are all about using technical skill and leverage to control and damage an opponent. A big enough guy can hold someone still with beef alone, but it's generally less effective.

Also, the stats and what they govern are all ass. Grappling is literally one of if not the most dexterity-intensive aspect of melee combat, but the musclebound Barbarian is numerically better at it than the specially trained Monk? Ridiculous.

I regularly see sword-tubers decry the glaring inaccuracies in DnD's combat system and then default to it anyway instead of actually looking for something that doesn't suck, and it feels really weird considering how anal-retentive that community normally is about research.

As someone who was once upon a time active in freeform RP spaces, the structure offered by having actual goddamned rules and mechanics is a distinct advantage for proper RPGs. If a contest of any kind happens in freeform, it's just endless semantics and "nu-uh, yea-huh" and nothing is accomplished

Apparently in a couple of Fromsoft games, leaving an unpatched version to idle for an especially long time will cause some kind of overflow error that breaks enemy AI. So if you have 12 hours to spare and a machine that can idle that long, it really does make it easier.

One of several inherent flaws with trying to build horror in a system meant for combat. Strahd in particular is really hard to strike the right balance with because he *can* wipe the party all by himself, by accident, but if he's presented as a typical boss he'll probably evaporate.

Modernloft isn't any better tbh. Played as a fair fight Strahd won't last 5 rounds, and played to his strengths he's untouchable for a 10th-level party. Unless players intentionally trivialize him with a specific spell combo, but even that needs some luck to go off.

Meanwhile, Coyote & Crow's folk-horror / mystery Ahu Tiiko module has been *haunting* me ever since I read through it as a GM. It helps that C&C players don't get magic "defeat the point of the story" buttons once they hit a certain level, while DnD has to warp itself around those options.

Modernloft has no real sense of atmosphere and spends too much time traveling between setpieces, and depending on how the cards fall, those setpieces can be *wildly* varied in tone and content. You're not getting a compelling or cohesive narrative out of it unless you literally stack the deck.

I disagree. The Imperium doesn't actually have the numbers to drown a problem in bodies, while also holding their own territory. On paper they could have ended the T'au, but in actuality they didn't, because they're so badly overextended and tied up in so many other conflicts.

Yeah, ALL of 40K is just a really drawn out "and then everyone died." The Imperium as a society is like a centenarian, with a terminal illness, on life-support. Whose kids went "no-contact" over 50 years ago. Most any other sci-fi civ is in the prime of its fucking life in comparison.

Dungeon Fighter Online has an entire Gunner class. It's really not difficult to give firearms the niche they'd logically have in a setting that already features martial demigods and reality-warping magic, which is just about every fantasy setting.

Halo stands out specifically because I've seen its fans tell me that playing third-person or turn-based games was "cheating" somehow, in the same breath as them showing up uninvited to insist that Master Chief could beat a given character in a fight. They're almost as bad as 40K fans.
