We will also be doing another national survey, to ensure a broad consensus with the issues we take forward to the next stage (which is designing solutions)

I'm not sure we can put the genie back in the box. Full early access to test results/reports is generally good for most- most results are reassuring. How do we help those that aren't so lucky? Manually checking and issuing is not feasible. Delaying issuing is also risky if it delays comms to GP.

This is a deeply depressing article. Change and innovation thrive in a culture which gives people the tools they need to do the job & supports positive risk-taking. If your hospital is inefficient because the ceiling is falling in or the IT is ancient, cutting the tariff won't drive improvements.

There is simply no environmental, noise or air quality reason to build more at Heathrow. More people live under the Heathrow flight path than any other airport in Europe- nearly 700k people. That is more than the next 3 highest added together and x4 those living below Charles De Gaule....

We weren't overloaded with concerns, no. We only do labs and not radiology (although I'm aware some other hospitals do both)
110
Carolyn Johnston @drcjohn.bsky.social · 20/01/2025
That works for you but not for everyone. The point is this isn't binary: AI is not universally bad or good.
100
Carolyn Johnston @drcjohn.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
I'm just reporting what our patient partners said during our build. Most hospitals and GP surgeries have been releasing results for a while now
100
Carolyn Johnston @drcjohn.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
We've been doing lab results straight to our patient portal for a while. In fact it was our patient partners who encouraged us to do it. Their point was that his would reassure many people who wait anxiously for results, and if you don't want your results, then don't check the portal (their words!)
100
Carolyn Johnston @drcjohn.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
I've never met another doctor who doesn't waste some of their time on mundane tasks!! (particularly with EPRs) Again, it's not binary- AI can (for example) construct the first draft of a letter/ entry that you review.
200
Carolyn Johnston @drcjohn.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
There is so much low value work for doctors! Writing into EPRs, typing clinic/ discharge letters, completing outcome forms, sifting through loads of PDFs for the right patient info, reviewing incorrect/inaccurate referrals....
100
Carolyn Johnston @drcjohn.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
It's not a binary answer. AI has huge potential to reduce errors and streamline care, so I would hope it can replace some of the low value work we do. Will it replace all we do, patently not.
200
Carolyn Johnston @drcjohn.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
But it's not replacing, it's helping. Surely it's a good thing to catch missed diagnoses?
110
Carolyn Johnston @drcjohn.bsky.social · 14/01/2025
My personal opinion is that the effort to implement is greater than the reward. I've seen more of them with 'out of order' signs than working examples. Plus the queue to check in at the desk is not the rate limiting step in outpatients.
