Sharing an interview I did with the New Books Network Podcast on my latest book, Canada and the Blackface Atlantic published with @wlupress.bsky.social . If you haven't yet read it, or are on the fence, this conversation is in-depth with a lot of inside stories about writing the book!

Ok so that storm yesterday was right at the time of my book launch! It was a small intimate group, so thank you to A Different Booklist for hosting, and Wilfrid Laurier University Press. Truly a cathartic night and respect to the elder to my right. So sweet, she laughed at all my jokes ❤️🙏🏾🙂

I wrote a piece today on Substack about why I wrote this book! It's officially out today, and I'm excited to share where the idea came from. The personal isn't always political, but the political is always personal. open.substack.com/pub/drcheryl...

This right here represents: 15 years of dedication, focus, and resilience which started as a racist incident at a frosh week event in Montreal, that then led to me reading every book there was to read all while completing a dissertation on a different topic! The official book drops April 22, 2025.

Look at these Jean Harlow films from the 30s. The original blonde who died at 36. She had a huge amount of toxins in her body, partly caused from the hair dyes to get that platinum look. Should be a cautionary tale, instead she's become an icon, the first "sex symbol". Happy Valentines lol

MAGA must have really meant Make America Nineteenth Century Britain. They call it Australia. No shade, that's what the motherland did. www.nma.gov.au/defining-mom....

An episode of King of the Hill circa 2004. No irony.

In 2021, I published this book. It did OK, but tbh it was ahead of its time. Uncle addresses the ways in which media, through repeating tropes, can sell you the same narratives of loyalty generation after generation as embodied in a person, in this case Uncle Tom. #Uncle #RacialTropes #BlackAuthor
