Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Well I guess that is 3 high-profile examples - what are they thinking? Not to put too finer point on it but the man was a twat. He'd even laid into Duffield previously. What a weird world. 000

Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 04/08/2026No I was interested because I've seen a fair number of folk wading into the Liddle debate - on the other site that shall not be named - myself included. He was a boorish, myogynistic contrarian who the male media chumocracy appears bizarrely to have put up on a journalistic pedestal!! 100

Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Haven't seen any myself in the media hagiography of Liddle. All seems to be blokes in the right-wing media chumocracy. I'm sure as an evidence based academic you can put me right on this. 200
Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Yeah that's as maybe but clearly he wasn't cut out for local government - that's a mere 3 months since the election. I know all political parties struggle to find good local councillors but folk have to have an idea of what it actually involves. 010
Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 19/06/2026Given the UK's geographical inequality has been writ large for centuries my guess is that policy-makers really have little clue as to what might change things. Maybe such inequalities are integral to capitalism 000

Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 21/05/2026I wouldn't cut the basic rate but would rather move the tax threshold for the BR rate up which has been frozen since 2021. This would be an effective rate cut for all but of most significant benefit to the lowest incomes. 010

Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 16/05/2026Possibly - although I have supported PR for decades I don't think it is a pancea. It'll create a new set of political challenges such as the negoiation of compromise. I'm not sure the UK is politically mature enough for that but I'm willing to find out. 021

Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 28/04/2026I agree but we already have an example when the tail attempts to wag the dog from 2010 when Clegg refused a coalition with Labour because he demanded the removal of Brown and instead we got austerity, PR put back a generation and indirectly Brexit. Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 27/04/2026A reasonable set of caveats. Add to it how many 16-17 will actually register. But in seats like Sheffield Hallam & Sheffield Central I could see it making some impact but in different ways politically. 000

Surely even on 50% turnout that could sway some constituencies. So I'd say ' a little, not much' rather than 'virtually none'. 100

Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 11/04/2026A hugely overstated & simplistic position. Can you actually point to an example of a BBC journalist saying "Farage has a point" in response to a news story relating to him? I'll wait. Sure it has always been establishment & constantly criticised by both the right and left - so pretty centrist 100

Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 08/04/202644 years and not a penny?? I figure that is statisically unlikely. t £5 in 1982 is worth in real terms around £22 today & if it had been invested at base rate interest compounded it would be worth £75 today. Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 08/04/2026Well Zack I'm not sure you think through the consequences of your words. Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 07/04/2026Very concerning but World War I suspect not. What exactly would be the sides? China would probably sit it out with their wait and see approach. Carl Lee @drcarllee.bsky.social · 06/04/2026Ah this is something I have debated with a whole host of folk over the years.
