...sale of “every collectible element sample and even some rare and hard to find ones,” including what it called a sample from a “cold war era smoke detector source” for $500, the document said. The sales included plutonium-239 [...] that he imported from a seller in St. Petersburg, Russia, it said.

Plutonium purification produces absolute shit tons of Am241. Am241 higher activity means you use less of it in smoke detectors. Plutonium cost $1m/g in the US during the buildup of the nuclear arsenal. Those Soviet detectors used ~1 mg Pu239 vs 2 ug Am241.

The only question that matters is will he vote to impeach the orange shit stain? My inference from his public statements is that his answer would be no.

One of these days I'll write up my story about the cold fusion experiment I worked on, that found a tiny fleck of plutonium on one of our detectors. That was an exciting day, and not in a good way.

This, I know something about. The Soviets stopped using plutonium 239 in smoke detectors circa 1970s. Those detectors were industrial smoke detectors, not home units. Why? Cost: They already had plutonium enrichment & purification processes set up. The half-life is 23k versus 0.4K years vs Am241

The asbestos mittens will shed, and it's the BAD kind of asbestos. They are also antiques, and not commonly available. There is no way to safely handle flashbangs. None.

The goal is 61. Because Fettermen is MAGA, And doesn't count. 60 votes to make any impeachment ballots secret, would allow the cowardly (but I repeat myself) Republican senators to vote for impeachment. My account is 55, but the first and second derivatives are pointing in the right direction.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country saw a 25% decrease. All of the United States is seeing 20 to 25% Year-over-year decreases in shootings and homicides. The same rough decrease was seen last year. And the year before that.

The arrogance of democratic leadership in New Mexico to allow this absolutely shitty candidate to run for governor is horrifying. Unfortunately, their analysis is likely correct. Anything with the D after its name is going to win statewide office in this cycle.

Chris Luchini @drbooom.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Because a non-existent law gives the governor the ability to issue this executive order. I'm pretty sure that copying Trump's imperial decree power is not going to be popular with voters. New Mexico is so ultraviolet blue that I've not even bothered to learn the name of the Republican candidate.

Any gambling of any kind, sports or anything else is a massive red flag. I would give a pass for event related gambling, perhaps a Vegas wedding, we're betting $2 on a horse because Grandpa insists on going to the track. If you gamble on an event, from your own home, you have a problem.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the roughly Norwegian 50% additional tax that ICE cars pay over electric just to purchase them, and then about $1,000 a month the additional fuel taxes. The US has 1/10 the fast chargers per per road mile then Norway does.

Talirico will turn a 5-point victory into a 5-point loss based purely on his failure to read the room on gun control. People who despise Paxton will lie to themselves about Talirico's positions, and vote Talerico, as long as GC is not top of mind.

Why would he flip? He makes far more grift as the treacherous Democrat, then he would as a run-of-the-mill not to be trusted Republican.

I was under the impression that all election law issues taken to federal court, had to be seen by a three-judge panel. Which means that the single federal judge is doing something out of regular order, if not illegal. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Chris Luchini @drbooom.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Flatly illegal. Legal expertise needed: There's no penalty in the law for this crime. Federal conspiracy is out, how about theft of government resources? Who can have standing in a civil suit?

Just a thought. In 2028, there are 17 days between when the US House & Senate are sworn in, and the presidential inauguration. 17 days is plenty of time to complete the impeachment of DjT. It's only 17 days? Every single day that traitor remains in office is a travesty.

So that's over 28 years. 14 election cycles. We need to know the number per election cycle. If they each cast one ballot that's 3.9 e- 6. Or 0.00039% In some states, landowners get to vote on some ballots regardless of citizenship status. E.g. Soil & water conservation ballot questions.

The typical Venezuelan crude has an API of -+ 8, think warm asphalt. It is diluted with naptha at 1:3 to allow it to be transported. It processes just fine, Chevrons Pascagoula refinery specializes in it.

I'd be fascinated to know what the ratio of volunteer to draftees were over the course of the Korean and Vietnam wars. I was too young to know anyone that went to Vietnam, I was 9 years old by the time the US was essentially out. But from what I do remember, I can't imagine anybody volunteering.

When I see a movie where X is agonizing over which wire to cut, with a visible cap stuck in the explosive brick, just pull out the damn cap. If it goes off a couple inches away from the bulk explosive, you're going to have a bad day, but you'll live.

Elected law enforcement is a check against cronyist government corruption, The "constitutional sheriff" (Yes, scare quotes are appropriate) notion is cancerous. I'm a borderline anarco capitalist, I supported an vowed Marxist for sheriff against the mainline Democrat, on anti-corruption grounds.
000
Chris Luchini @drbooom.bsky.social · 10/08/2026
The easiest way to deflate the constitutional sheriff's notion, is simply asked them the constitutional basis for their assertions of the primacy of sheriffs in law enforcement. There's literally not one word about it in the Constitution. 1/2

Tillis and Cornyn or just asking him to lie convincingly. They know he's lying if he says he's not going to go forward with slush fund and IRS immunity. That's patently obvious. " Just lie real pretty for me" and I'll vote for you.

Preventing suicide clusters in law enforcement requires a better understanding of the issue and a strong postvention response.

This claim that five police officers died because of January 6th Irritates the crap out of me. Those of us that see the January 6th incident as treason and insurrection are not doing ourselves any favors by repeating this falsehood. One died of a stroke the next day, not due to injuries.

At that point I admit that I went on a bit of a rant against the hyper delusional election idiots. At length and in detail, refuting the talking points that rattle around in that community. I walked out without asking for their endorsement.

The proponents of constitutional sheriff were mostly interested in whether or not I would be willing to arrest women that had abortions, and their doctors. The next point was the 2020 election, they stated that Trump won New Mexico by 30%. Would I arrest county clerks? No.

Since these people worship the Constitution, and have never read it, I had to read through the constitution: sheriff or law enforcement never appears in the Constitution. In the Q&A afterwards, those in favor of the Constitution sheriff idea were revealed to be neo-confederates.

I ran for sheriff once as a Libertarian, and since there was no Republican in the race, attended a Republican party meeting, at their invitation. They expressed interest in endorsing me. The "constitutional sheriff" thing came up, and having prepared, I spoke against the concept.

Can you point out some examples where the Libertarians were successful at gaining office as sheriff? I'll settle for two examples, in the last 30 years, across the entire United States.

Where did the # 700 tons come from? I know this will be unpopular, but I doubt the IDF would take the effort to bring in 700 tons of explosives. They were probably already there. Why did Hamas have 700 of explosives inside or adjacent to a UNESCO heritage site? Both sides are +- evil.

I had a green energy company, that got a Federal Grant. That required that all construction be in compliance with the Davis Bacon act. The lowest cluster of bids came in around $3.5M. I worked with several of them on an alternative plan with no federal money, to do exactly the same thing.$650k

Why is Reason sane washing tariffs? It's not legally dubious, it's blatantly illegal. The supposed forced labor "findings underlying Greer's list are woefully inadequate.", but rather that they are entirely fictitious. When this administration states it's making shit up, believe them.

Hybrid. Some pieces are 3D printed, some are conventionally machined. As those that have dealt with high cyclic rate can appreciate, ammunition handling gets spicy over 2000 RPM. I'm going to be spending some quality time with a 30,000 frame/second camera this week.

Chris Luchini @drbooom.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
Funny you should say that. I spent last night working on system that weighs less than 2 kilos with ammo. Cyclic rate 2400. Ammunition system is 100 rounds per kilo. Goal is that the gun less ammo is under 500 g. Prototype to be tested in 2 weeks. Yes I have a license for that.

The legislature doubled the signature requirement to 14,200 signatures in 2024. 2% of the vote. Billionaires RFK/Sawyer/etc have driven the price of commercial signature collection to $15+/sig $300k-ish. How's a candidate running for appellate court going to raise $300,000 to get on the ballot?

Pre Brady a non-in-person transfer was done on a green 4473. The background check is done & copy is sent to local law enforcement of the transferee > 5 days pre xfer. This change restores that ability. I have customers drive >2 hours one way, now they can do it once rather than twice.
