INTERFAX.RU - Russian Railways' failure to approve ferrous metal transportation requests to Northwestern ports threatens to shut down operations in the near future due to non-delivery of finished products, according to a letter from the Russian Steel Association to Deputy Transport Minister Alexei Shilo, obtained by Interfax.

The association cites low unloading rates at a number of Northwest ports, including a lack of port capacity, as reasons for the failure to approve applications for the transportation of steel products.

"Furthermore, due to a shortage of locomotives and locomotive crews, Russian Railways cannot ensure the timely removal of empty rolling stock from port stations," the letter states.

Drivers and loaders of Moscow-based solid waste removal operator Ecolife staged a strike at the company's garbage truck depot, which serves Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov, according to Moscow region blogger Andrey Trofimov. According to the journalist, the workers are dissatisfied with a two-fold wage cut "due to recalculations" and are demanding an increase in their base salary from 15,500 to 25,000 rubles. On the morning of October 12, most of the 270 employees at the depot either missed their trips or took sick leave to look for new work. Despite the low wages, the drivers and loaders are "working 12-hour shifts," Trofimov writes, citing the workers themselves.

According to them, in September, at full capacity, they received around 40,000 rubles. On Monday, they met with the base manager, Radik Baibikov. He first told the workers that protests would achieve nothing, and then began shouting at the workers and accusing them of "asserting their rights." He also called on those dissatisfied with the situation who refused to show up to work to submit resignation letters. The strikers suspected that Baibikov had been threatened from the company's headquarters in Khimki. The base manager himself complained to his employees that he had already been fired and blamed the strikers for it, calling them "bitches."

One of Trofimov's subscribers reported that the strike has already led to problems with overcrowded sites. "The trash bins at several addresses in the city are full, and no one's taking them out," he wrote , without specifying the location.

Russia's second-largest marketplace, which suffered billions in losses from Ukrainian Armed Forces drone attacks on warehouses and faced a wave of lawsuits from sellers, announced it was closing access to insurance policies from Ingosstrakh. The company cited "significant changes in the terms of coverage for certain risks" in the insurance market, including massive product damage and drone strikes. Existing policies will remain valid until October 13, after which they will no longer be available. "We are also exploring other options to protect sellers' goods—we will do everything possible to ensure entrepreneurs have effective financial protection tools," Ozon stated .

Ozon has thus made it clear that sellers should no longer expect such options, according to Vladislav Kocherin, managing partner of the law firm Kocherin & Partners. "Now, companies that insured such cargo are either refusing to do so or raising their rates. I think we've received a signal that this service will no longer be available to sellers... Apparently, the company can no longer provide such a service because it's too risky and partners are refusing to cooperate," he explained in a conversation with Kommersant.

In his opinion, other insurers are unlikely to rush to take Ingosstrakh's place, and "interested parties" will likely have to take care of their own insurance.

"In Tura and the villages of Ilimpija, by decree of the Evenkia administration (...) a regime (...) of 'high alert' has been introduced," the statement reads.

This is due to the lack of shipping on the Nizhnyaya Tunguska River and limited supplies of vegetables, fruits, milk, and eggs. Local stores stock canned vegetables, fish, and meat, cereals, flour, sugar, salt, pasta, and meat products.

Residents of many Russian regions are complaining of cold in their apartments, despite the start of the heating season. According to him, one of the main reasons is the critical deterioration of utility networks, which in some places has reached 90%. Utility companies intentionally do not turn on heating at full capacity to prevent major accidents and pipe bursts.

The problem is exacerbated in areas where older heating systems are being repurposed to serve new multi-story buildings. Networks originally designed for five-story buildings cannot handle the load of 20-story buildings, and attempts to increase pressure to supply the required amount of heat only increase the risk of breakdowns and accidents.

"Many courses are overloaded with unnecessary information and knowledge. This includes mathematics, physics, and chemistry. These courses could be cut by 20-30 percent," he told TASS. According to Fadeyev, all subject curricula should be reviewed. He also advocated for the use of proven textbooks, citing Andrei Kiselev's mathematics textbook, written before the 1917 Revolution, as an example. "If the pinnacle of teaching methods has been achieved, there's no need to do anything else. We just need to select the best textbooks and teach children from them," the head of the Human Rights Council said.

The authorities had previously reduced the number of hours in other subjects. Starting in 2026, social studies was retained only in grades 9–11, and the number of hours of foreign language in grades 5–9 was reduced from 510 to 408. The freed-up hours in social studies were transferred to history.

Moscow. October 5. INTERFAX.RU - JSC GTLK (part of the VEB.RF Group) received 24.3 billion rubles from the National Welfare Fund (NWF) to implement an investment project to upgrade its helicopter fleet.

The funds will be used to finance the delivery of Mi-8 helicopters, whose delivery to Russian airlines is scheduled for 2026-2027, the lessor reported.

The funds are being provided through the purchase of the company's bonds. GTLK placed issues series 004P-04 and 004P-05 through a private placement in favor of the Russian Ministry of Finance. The coupon income is set at 1.5% per annum, according to the statement.

Footage from the scene shows passengers exiting the train. The platform was filled with smoke.

At 10:48 PM, the capital's Department of Transport wrote on its Telegram channel that the station was operating normally and trains were running on schedule.

"There is no threat to passenger safety or train operations," the department assured.

They confirmed that smoke had been detected at the station previously. Metro employees promptly switched the ventilation shafts to smoke exhaust mode and inspected the equipment. A special commission will determine the cause of the smoke.
