Today marks my last day as a @leverhulme.ac.uk Early Career Fellow @liverpooluni.bsky.social! Three years has gone so quickly - I've met such lovely people, had the room and encouragement to expand my research horizons, and set out on so many adventures to trace prisoner journeys all over the world

Who else is watching the fantastic #Empire series by @davidolusoga.bsky.social? It was a pleasure to be involved in this - dangerous and disease-ridden #prisonhulks were used in England for 80 years from 1776, propping up the rotten system of convict transportation. Check out episode 2 for more!

The afterlives of the prison: a painted button emblazoned with the Paris coat of arms and the words "stone from the Bastille" (with a spelling mistake) made out of stone taken from the demolished Bastille prison, c.1790 (Musée Carnavalet) 🗃️

Dartmoor prison is a granite fortress built 1806-9 to house French prisoners of the Napleonic wars. MPs first began discussing high radon levels there in 1987. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

A Dartmoor village is paying Prince William £1.5m-a-year for an abandoned prison - and former inmates say it gave them cancer
As ex-prisoners sue over claims that high levels of radon gas have led to serious illnesses, taxpayers continue to foot the rental bill
