‘Roman Priests from Republic to Empire’, has its first review! Largely positive, although not without its faults. I excerpt: “The book’s great strength lies in the details, in the individual semantic studies and close readings, which are uniformly thoughtful and sensitive to complexity and nuance”.

It’s publication day! It’s a pleasure to finally see this edited volume in print. A massive thank you to my co-editors and to all the collaborators to the volume. It’s a pleasure to bring together a wealth of scholars from across the world, all asking questions about the Roman Censorship.

A big, emotional week, marking my last teaching semester at the University of Glasgow. Privileged to be nominated for an Outstanding Teaching Excellence Award at the end of it all. It has been an honour and privilege to teach such a talented bunch of students, and to learn from my colleagues.

Of the 500 or so priests discussed in the book - everyone from Romulus to Hadrian - perhaps my favourite is L. Volusius Saturninus, who died at 93, held multiple priesthoods, and was honoured by the senate and emperor Nero with a whopping seven statues in Rome en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucius_...

Teaching Beginner’s Latin for a group of 40+. I set two pieces of homework a week - one I mark, one that I have them peer-mark, and only go through in class those exercises they struggled with. I also set a formative, marked, practice test and exam. It’s a lot of work, but find it helpful!
