They want him to lose so that they can say opposition to Israel is bad politics.

Today is a rare day where Twitter has more useful information than this website on a very important issue, so let's collate some of the ongoing discussions. 🧵 Here are the words straight from the mouth of a student organizer who went from interning for Mamdani to protesting him on the streets:
Wow. A student organizer leading protests against Zohran Mamdani tonight reveals that she previously interned for him.

Now she’s leading chants against the very politician she once worked for, accusing him of prioritizing his own political advancement over the people and movements that helped bring him to power.

She delivers an ultimatum: The protests can stop when Mamdani stops the sale of stolen Palestinian land in NYC and abolishes the CUNY Board of Trustees, which advances Israel’s interests within the nation’s largest urban public university system.

But she makes clear that she doesn’t expect him to deliver. In her view, Mamdani has become just another politician who makes promises to movements and then fails to meet their demands once in office.

What makes her testimony particularly significant is that she isn’t someone who opposed Mamdani from the beginning. She worked for him. She believed enough in his political project to participate in it. Now she’s publicly confronting him.

Her speech speaks to a broader frustration among people who placed their hopes in electoral politics as a vehicle for advancing Palestinian liberation. For some, the experience hasn’t strengthened their faith in political institutions. It has deepened their distrust.

It’s important to understand that one of the right’s major obsessions is reality creation, the idea that they can tell absurd lies and be believed as well as arbitrarily re-define existing terms like “critical race theory” and “socialism” to their own ends.

Yes and it’s my understanding that the timing on that is very tight, so I don’t buy the explanation that saying Johnson won’t seat the incoming Congress is essentially the same as saying he’ll pull something with the clerk. It would actually be a lot more difficult than a simple refusal to seat.

Wally Balls @dragoonscene.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Congress isn’t a continuing body, meaning Johnson won’t be seating anyone if the Democrats win because he’ll no longer be speaker.

The political crisis isn’t about pro- vs. anti-genocide. It’s about how to achieve it through multiple wars/occupations with a total population of 7-8 million Jewish Israelis.

Ultra-Orthodox protesters block roads and trains across Israel over military draft
Tens of thousands of ultra-Orthodox demonstrated across Israel on Monday, blocking roads and trains and setting cars on fire to protest mandatory enlistment in Israel's military.

The Trump-led break against GW/Jeb Bush-style conservativism has been retconned into a fight over forever wars (an explanation which seems … implausible in 2026) but was actually about the Bushes wanting to bring in Latino voters, which led to the “soft on immigration” charge and now here we are.

Pre-Zionism (so late 1800s) there was actually a lot of shared history and culture between Arabs and Jews in Palestine, particularly the Sephardic population which had links to Al-Andalus.

She doesn’t get a free pass if that’s what you mean. I’d be surprised if they didn’t commute her sentence, but I don’t believe there’s any legal requirement for them to do so. Basically, are you going to nurse someone back to health to kill them? Probably a bridge too far.

It’s between the ultra orthodox who don’t serve in the military and are growing as a share of the population vs. everyone else as Israel commits to perpetual war and occupation for the foreseeable future.

Netanyahu’s entire politics is that a two state solution would be the end of Israel and everything possible should be done to prevent one from ever existing.

“Widespread international support” for a vague concept doesn’t amount to anything, actually. The idea that relocating over 700,000 settlers would be easier than equality under the law for everyone subject to Israeli control is absurd.

One thing I've learned in life is that whenever someone says "What you have to understand about [some group] is that they're [some description]," the description always applies to all humans everywhere. This from the WSJ is a real classic of this genre: wsj.com/opinion/reve...

He’s saying that if we didn’t attack Iran they’d be poised to nuke the West Coast so don’t be mad about gas prices. Which means we’ve reached the point where he can’t persuade anyone who isn’t already in the cult. Which means his midterm strategy is cult member outreach. Which means he’s cooked.

Worth noting that the PLO was still negotiating when Sharon came into power, contrary to the myth that they walked away from peace talks to wage war.

That would be conditioned on Israel offering an actual state, which has never happened (no, not in 2000). Israel was always clear that they’d offer, at most, “less than a state” with Israel controlling the airspace, roads bisecting the proposed territory, and no Palestinian military allowed.

There was a fairly high degree of coexistence between Muslims and indigenous Jews before the arrival of Zionists. Not perfect, but made dramatically worse by the intent to create an ethnostate. As far as the land sales go, I think they were only around 5% of the territory by the 1940s.

No dumbass. It rests on indigenous rights and anti colonialism. The British had zero right to give Palestine away, particularly as they’d made promises to support statehood for Arab nationalists who helped them against the Ottomans in WWI.

It’s really telling that you have to resort to weird-ass hypotheticals because there’s no real-life analogous case. Also, Jews were not flocking to Israel. Israel did false flag attacks on Jews in Arab counties, negotiated expulsions of Jews, and created blowback that prompted MENA Jews to emigrate.

Ok but if we’re talking about public funds being used to prevent possible threats from private actors, it absolutely does matter. First off, that’s what the police are for and second, it’s a benefit nobody in NYC who’s currently under threat from a stalker or abusive ex gets so why here?

There was mass migration to mandatory Palestine and Jews were more welcome there than in other parts of the world but of course there were problems because Zionism has always been fixated on a Jewish-dominated state and not a religiously pluralist one.

Wally Balls @dragoonscene.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Third, lots of different groups have inhabited that region over time and the idea that it was somehow the “property of the Jews” or that they even have a unique claim to it is a religious view and fundamentally ahistorical.

First of all, the colonial powers-dominated UN had no right to give away territory to settlers with no input from its indigenous inhabitants. Second, there is no recognized right for people to settle in an “ancestral homeland” (are the Romani entitled to a piece of India?), so that’s just made up.
