New review of 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 by @rhinsedzell.bsky.social from @thewiremagazine.bsky.social.
Magazine clipping that reads: Rhins; The Invisible; Dragon's Eye DL; In recent years, the links between electronic music and neurodivergence have been explored in various ways. Many empirical essays and pieces have pointed towards the higher incidence of neurodiversity, not just among creators of electronic music, but also among fans of it.

In addition, various albums and projects have explicitly explored the connection, most recently Echolalia( see The Wire 511)in which Leeds musician Mick Coldwell aka Conflux Coldwell examines neurodivergent experience through a hauntological lens, with a particular focus on ideas around pattern recognition and memory.

Rhins is Scottish musician Joe Quimby, whose new album The Invisible adds to that list of works which, in some way, deal with neuroatypicality. "Iona" slowly churns itself into existence, a distant wave gradually swelling into a crashing roar. Beneath the distortion of overdriven electronics, a droning melody cycles in glacial longlorm like some clear thought obscured by a headache. At times, this type of granular obscuration recalls the work of Liz 'Grouper' Harris, with elements moving in and out of frame, information bubbling beneath and soaring above these washes of high saturation.

Like Coldwell, Ouimby's project appears to be deeply introspective, the turmoil and ambiguous emotive charge on tracks such as "Self Interrupted" perhaps exorcising some personal trauma, or at the very least "communicating the frustration of being unintelligible in a neurotypical world".

In this sense The Invisible is akin to lsnaj Dui's Sight Seeing in which musician Katie English evokes the experience of various sight conditions. Both materialise textures and shapes out of shimmering uncertainty and both are laced with a complex array of emotional threads. For Quimby, these threads churn into a knotted ball of something close to subdued anger or stubborn determination.

"Beaudoin takes a deep dive into these lost silences, using slowburning ambient textures to expose their importance and textural levels." Great new review of 𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙨 by @paulbeaudoin.bsky.social in this months issue of @thewiremagazine.bsky.social, our first time back in the pages in 10 years!
Connectivity fascinated Nikola Tesla. Although his inventions - radio technology, the electrical transformer, robots - needed physical structures to function correctly, one of his ultimate obsessions was how energy and information could be passed on without visible means of support. This is where Paul Beaudoin's Signal Loss comes in. Originally conceived as a sound installation for the Nikola Tesla Museum in Zagreb, signal loss doubles back on Tesla's fascination for invisible connectivity to wonder what happens to any structure - electrical, emotional or cultural - when it fails to connect. Based in Tallinn, Paul Beaudoin is a multidisciplinary artist whose academic approach takes him down avenues from painting, text and performance to experiments with sound. For Signal Loss, Beaudoin exploits his interest in perceived silences, the sound gaps that are often ignored but are rich with quiet stories and resounding depths. Beaudoin takes a deep dive into these lost silences, using slowburning ambient textures to expose their importance and textural levels. "Wardenclyffe (Nothing Returned)" takes its cue from the Wardenclyffe Tower Tesla built near New York in 1901 with the intention of using it to transmit messages. The tower was never used, and Beaudoin's track is a tribute to its unrealised potential. "Parasitic Oscillation" is named after the unintentional phenomenon wherein electric circuits produce looping, fluctuating waves of accidental feedback. Beaudoin exploits these accidents to fashion a delicate exercise in feedback-driven sound that develops, sustains, then fades away. The album's closing track "Last Known Transmission" takes chiming, piano-like notes dangerously close to distortion while distant bleeps are sprinkled across a piece that shimmers with a dignified loneliness. As much a reflection on the isolation and lack of recognition Nikola Tesla suffered throughout his career as it is a collection of sensitive, thoughtfully constructed sound works...

AMN Reviews: Paul Beaudoin – signal loss (2026; Dragon’s Eye Recordings)
This quiet and sparse set of ambient tracks from Paul Beaudoin straddles the scientific and the illusory. Largely named after terms from communication engineering, the 12 tracks of signal loss bega…

A little nervous to post this because I am not a writer, but I have had some idea's bouncing around my head for a while, so I finally tried to articulate them. In it I make a case for artists to descale, not hyperscale. www.3n.design/journal/an-a...

An Argument for Descaling
For the last few years I’ve been quietly dreading Google Zero, the term coined by Nilay Patel 1 for the day Google stops sending traffic to websites at all. As someone who makes his living building websites, and who has his own to worry about, it felt like watching a slow-motion collapse I couldn’t do […]

TORSO 09 is now streaming! This might be my favourite of all the TORSO's thus far. Playing works by Burial, Skrillex, Danny Brown and an unreleased @dragonseyerecordings.com from myself! soundcloud.com/rushab-nandh... 🤍

New review of 𝙈𝙞𝙭𝙚𝙙 𝙎𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙄𝙄𝙄 by @faxmusik.bsky.social and @brauliolam13.bsky.social from Rockerilla.
Prerss clipping from Rockerilla that reads: FAX + BRAULIO LAM; Mixed Signals III; Dragon's Eye Recordings. Mirco Salvadori
