Let books be. Today kicks off #BannedBooksWeek, an annual observation started more than 40 years ago in response to a sudden surge in attempts to censor or remove books in libraries, schools, and bookstores. Sound familiar? Find ways to get involved and spread the word: bit.ly/4yvixbB.

LET BOOKS BE. Various line drawings related to libraries and books, including a hand holding a sign made of an open book that reads "Freed for ALL to Read," a tote bag that reads "Totes Resist" carrying a book, a full book cart with the head and tale of a horse with text that reads "A Wild Ride," and a closeup of two feet standing on a stack of books that say "A Soap Box" on their spines. Text at bottom reads "Protect the freedom to read. Banned Books Week, October 4-10, 2026." American Library Association. ala.org/bbooks

Periodic check-in: I've been working a bit on original work, recovering from intense personal burnout (thanks capitalism...), and learning to unmask without feeling guilty. I still read every AO3 comment and I'm so grateful for all the support I've received from fandom. Wishing you all well.

My god I finally finished a draft for my "trauma of patriarchy" original novel after 20 freaking years. There's a LOT to fill in and pretty up but at least I finally now know where all the characters go (at some point they were in two places at once) and how the story actually ends!! Such a relief.

Some recent updates from me: - chose not to renew my translation site & domain for budget reasons. I'm revising my drafted MDZS translations in an old-school word processing program that doesn't connect to the Internet. Added bonus: I stay focused without distractions from socmed.

My second entry for @mdzsrbb.bsky.social with my talented writer @drpanda99.bsky.social ! Follow the link below for a Hellsing AU wangxian full of mystery, action, and promises through centuries🧛 🔗 archiveofourown.org/works/691941... #魔道祖师 #忘羨 #MDZS #WangXian

A digital illustration of a teen lwj backed up against a talisman-covered wall, dark figures pointing handguns at him. He is wearing a pale blue waistcoat over white tangzhuang, semi-long hair and large round glasses on his face. Between teenji and the wall is what looks like a emaciated male corpse hanging from ropes by either wrists. The corpse is wearing tattered dark red robes over greyed skin, red ribbon and long hair wild in the wind. Underneath the disarrayed hair his eyes are open, a glowing red eye looking down at teenji backed up against him. His face and bared chest is splattered with blood - the blood is from teenji's injured right arm that is drenched in red.

A digital illustration of wangxian sitting in what looks like a mix between a lounge and a library/archive. Grownup wangxian are sitting in a 'whispering chair' style sofa, lwj facing backwards and wwx facing forwards. Lwj seems to be reading a newspaper while wwx has his legs crossed and leaning flirtatiously towards lwj. Wwx is in a chinese-fusion style outfit, a black slacks, white taozhuang jacket, oxford shoes and a red overcoat with large-brimmed red hat. Lwj seems to be in black slacks and white shirt. Surrounding them are various items, an old-fasioned rifle, a bookshelf full with ancient text, a chinese tea set. Behind them is a large scroll hanging from the wall, depicting an ink painting of wwx in traditional dark robes kneeling in front of a long-haired man in white, holding the man's hand with both of his hand.

This is what I decided to typeset over my vacation ... one of MDZS's most notorious fanfics, in tiny book form. Unfortunately, the tags filled up all the pages and there was no room for the fic itself! What a shame.

A small book bound in red leather, with the title "Sexy Times with Wangxian" in (somewhat messy and a bit hard to read) gold foiled letters in the center

The endpapers are marbled paper with a red and blue abstract swirl

The title page says "Sexy Times" in a script font with flourishes, then "with" in a basic italic serif font, then "Wangxian" in Cinzel Decorative. The author is virtual1979 and at the bottom of the title page is says "Teleport Books, Boston / MMXXV"

The list of the fic's tags continues onto the final page of the book, finishing up with "Blow Jobs, Big Fat Quiz of Everything, Gills, Gillplay, Locker Room, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Skater Victor Nikiforov, Skater Katsuki Yuuri"

Below that, the text reads "… and it seems we’ve run out of pages for the rest of the fic. Tag limits exist for a reason, and this is it!" followed by a link to the fic's fanlore page: fanlore.org/wiki/Sexy_times_with_Wangxian

Happy lunar new year! 新年快乐！！I've been thinking about the second fic I ever posted, Five Shades of Home, which new years prompts from Danmei Diaspora Creatives. I wanted to explore Wei Ying's experience of family in his new post canon setting. archiveofourown.org/works/368136...

Five Shades of Home
DrPanda99
Summary:
The New Year comes to the Cloud Recesses and Wei Wuxian is drowning in his grief, haunted by the missing places where his family should sit. Years after his marriage to Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian finds his home and learns to live beyond the crushing weight of his guilt with help from the ones who love him.

Written for #DanmeiCNYFest.

Lan Wangji’s presence kept him in the present, but sometimes Wei Wuxian wanted to drown in his past.

He remembered the intense hunger that gnawed at him each day he spent in the Burial Mounds. He remembered the too-thin frames of the Wens around him, the feeling of holding A-Yuan’s dirt-covered little hands in his own. He remembered the laughter and the love, boundless in his life for the first time since he lost his parents.

He remembered the loss like a phantom limb, invisible and impossible to ignore.
