Here's some old doodle sheets that expand on Jacky being from Oregon and her relationship with Faerie/ending up in otherworldly places.

Eleven year old Jacky holds a lanky orange cat that completely fills her arms and thensome. She has longer hair that is tied back.
Jacky experienced a kind of village raising as a kid. It was only her and her mom, but when she went into the woods she met faeries. It was a dice roll if they were going to mean her harm or not, but she got pretty good at telling the difference. The good ones taught her things that would help her survive on her own. They probably also taught her to fuck with people, but what power does an eleven year old have.
When she was seven years old she found Peter's eye in a drawer in Gale's house. I haven't settled on why she and Claudia were there. I don't think Gale and Jacky knew each other in this iteration of the story. The eye rattled for her from a wooden box upstairs. She took it home and Gale was never any the wiser- he'd never know it was there to begin with.
After finding the eye, Peter started to appear to her. He talked a little. She followed him and other cats that began to appear to secret places, although she couldn't trust the cats all the way either. Occasionally one would try to lead her somewhere bad.
Jacky had to get real good at running and real good at detecting bullshit at a young age.

Fiddletails are faeries born to human mothers, they are 'conceived' when the mother eats a special mushroom from a faerie ring. There is no biological father.
Their nickname derives from the fern-like shape of the end of their tail, which can resemble a fiddlehead when balled.
The fronds on their back are soft enough to lay flat or can be trimmed. It doesn't hurt. The tail is fleshy.
A fiddletail will find it easy to cross between the waking world and other worlds from a young age. If they're intuitive (or lucky) they'll lean to hide from threats quick, but not everything is dangerous. Many will find themselves in a takes-a-village raising situation with a network of faerie aunts, uncles and cousins.
In modern times it's uncommon for fiddletails to run into each other, and most will never get a clear answer about what they are.
They prefer bare feet or faerie made shoes.
They start shapeshifting around young adulthood. Colors and markings vary, but the base shape stays the same across all members of the species. Jacky no longer shapeshifts but her alt form wa sa bit of a tank compared to her. Not shifting started as a choice (trauma), but she's mostly lost the ability.
Jacky's alt form is about the size of a big cat, but she's learned to survive without it.

I’ve thought long and hard about making this post, but really, at this point, I don’t have much to lose. Desperate times, and all that.

TLDR version: I need a kidney transplant, and I’m looking for a donor. Read below for all the gory details.

Since late 2019, right before Covid hit, I’ve been battling a serious illness. I’ve been kind of cagey about what exactly is wrong, for a number of reasons, but here’s the truth—I’m in full kidney failure.

There is no history of this in my family, so when the symptoms began appearing I didn’t recognize them until it was too late. By the time I went to a doctor my kidney function had dropped into the single digits. Most kidney failure is caused by diabetes or high blood pressure—I got some weird kidney disease I can’t even pronounce and never heard of: Oxalate Nephropathy.

By adopting some dietary changes and careful monitoring, I was able to limp along with reduced kidney function for several years. But you don’t appreciate how much your kidneys do to keep you healthy until they stop working. There’s constant fatigue and nausea, and a general feeling of unwellness that never goes away.

But eventually I lost even what minimal function I had left, which left the end of the line for kidney disease: dialysis. As of this point I’ve been on dialysis for about 3 years. Let me tell you—dialysis is its own special kind of hell that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy.

But even that is just a stop-gap measure, and my condition is continuing to get worse. Despite this, I’m trying my best to live as normal a life as possible. I’m extremely lucky I have a job that’s willing to allow me 9 hours a week for dialysis, so I’m still working. On weekends I work on my art and comics, and one or two days a month I do my volunteer work at the bird-banding site. I can even travel to see my family—if I arrange for dialysis at a local clinic ahead of time.

All of that is done while trying to deal with the symptoms of kidney failure. I’ve known 4 people who were on dialysis—none of them worked or really did much of anything, and at this point they’re all dead, which doesn’t really give me a lot of hope for my future.

Which brings us to the point of all this—I desperately need a kidney transplant. That is the only thing that will give me a chance at a relatively normal life. I’ve been approved and on the transplant list for a few years, but the waiting period in California is very long. By the time I get to the top of it, I may be too sick to get one. Right now I’m still in relatively good condition, comparatively. A transplant from a living donor lasts much longer and is better in every way than one you get from a deceased donor.

Unfortunately, everyone in my immediate family is too old or has other health problems that preclude donation. So this post is a desperate attempt to find anyone willing to donate. I realize donating a kidney is a lot different than giving ten bucks to a GoFundMe, but as I said at the beginning, at this point I don’t have much to lose by asking.
