The first week of excavations and stratigraphic documentation at Dalarik-1 Cave was very successful! The trip to Kalavan village - and the homonymous Palaeolithic sites - was the best treat for a day-off! A stop at Gutanasar volcano was a must! @humendylab.bsky.social #TransCause

The obsidian bowl was a hit, so here is another special item. This is, to my knowledge, one of only five known Mesopotamian obsidian amulets, inscribed with spells to protect the wearer from Lamaštu, a demon who tormented pregnant women and kidnapped babies. The obsidian came from central Turkey.

Mind the gap. #Archaeologists are excited about #dinosaurs as much as everybody else - but we don't dig them. Not literally. That's where our colleagues in #palaeontology come in - there's a good sixty-four million years of evolutionary history between the Flintstones and their pets. 🏺🦕
Drawing of a prehistoric hunter with a spear in one hand standing high up on an edge upon piled up different layers with all kinds of material included. On the ground below a dinosaur is looking up at the rathe puzzled looking hunter. A note indicates the distance between them: "≈ 64 million years".
