Banks Peninsula Green candidate Craig Pauling absolutely tearing it up at Te Waipapa/ Diamond Harbour tonight. Young ACT candidate behind him seems totally stunned whereas as current MP is smirking as usual.
View from audience at community candidate meeting. A woman in a red top with grey hair had her back to the audience. A good looking Māori man is speaking at a podium. Behind home a young male candidate states blankly while a middle aged woman MP smirks

Yes! I don't think we can empahsise this enough. We aren't talking about confiscation (yet, anyway). Well managed wealth should be growing at a rate much faster than the modest wealth tax proposals being floated so far.

Really been struck this year by how many people I find when door knocking and calling that say disability is one of their key issues. There's a big and rightfully angry community out there and parties are ignoring it at their peril.

The way they are falling over themselves to tell us "nothing to see here" is really telling on themselves.

www.stuff.co.nz/politics/361... “Let me start with a confession: I haven’t read the latest Nicky Hager book.” Really? If Stuff is publishing reviews by people who haven’t read the book then my cracker review of “ War and Peace” is on its way.

Nicky Hager’s Dirty Work belongs in the fiction section
Former minister Chris Penk says that there’s an element of Dirty Work inherent in printing a succession of anonymous comments without a right of reply.

Grand Central Station was the former main post office on 8th Ave. I have a sentimental attachment to it as we used to post our Christmas presents home from there at the LAST possible moment.

Even in some weird upside down world where his claim was true do we think he was suggesting the Engineer should be paid more? Or that actually we cut benefits further below survival level based on this weak anecdote.

Ugh, that billboard claiming credit for 14 new classrooms on Cashmere road was bad enough.

Our most anti-environment Govt ever - has officially lost the plot in embedding environmental destruction and climate denialism and delay into the heart of their new Planning and Environment laws ☠️☠️ It's possible& necessary to prioritise the health of our people& environment 🌏 this ain't that.

I didn't realise that ERO even went into the classrooms. The reports always seemed all about process, record keeping and training. I do remember as a child being told to be on best behaviour when the "inspectors" were visiting but somehow it was implied the kids were being inspected.

I would guess there's a fair chance OP will be "confidence and supply" only as their "outsider" schtick seems pretty important to them.

They won't *campaign* on it at least. It's not that there aren't people in Labour who wouldn't want to see a more reasonable tax regime (Renney for example) and strong partner vote share as well as internal pressure might in fact see some progress in tax under cover of "coalition agreement".

Also failure to understand MMP. Some people think the *need* to vote Labour to get National out.

Yeah, but the real cost was those agonising hours walking around the shelves trying to find something everyone can agree on.

This has been the rule in other places. We stayed in a modest converted farmhouse in Hokkaido that had hotel-like exit signs, emergency lighting and alarms as well as a hotel type register.

One thing I’ve found from campaigning is that a *lot* of people have at least some misconceptions about MMP. So you aren’t alone. Not a reason to get rid of it IMO. Might be a case for more publicity campaigns though.

"Worrying" is a particularly grating way to describe it. If they are that worried have they done anything to improve air quality and reduce respiratory disease? As it is it comes across as a patronising attempt to shame parents who are nearly all doing the best they can.

I have sometimes asked what “identity politics” means. Mostly because I don’t actually know since it seems never to be applied to NZF despite their party name being an identity statement. Good on ya for door knocking BTW. The people I do like are those that commend you for making the effort.

OMFG. The Nat MPs clearly do not have confidence in Luxon. Yet they cannot organise a leadership change. As the old saying goes, if you can’t organise a piss up in a brewery it’s no wonder you’ve made a mess of the economy.

Is that wēka available for a political party leadership role?

Quentin McDonald @dqmcd.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
There may still be time for the chaos you crave. Peters is basically unleashed at this point and Seymour won't miss a chance to exploit a weak Nat leader to get all the attention. Many Nats will be sharp elbowing each other with an eye to be the leader who rescues the party after a defeat.

It's also a jab at local government who apparently are addicted to "nice to haves" and need to be restructured to the point of no longer being able to function.

There are people, not all of them dumb, who seem to have bought the "Jacinta spent all the moneys" line. I imagine this is aimed at them. The idea that the job of "fixing" things is of such huge magnitude that it's a multi-term effort.

I hardly ever see kW/100km reported and other EV owners I've talked to often don't even know. I think range is overstated. If you size the battery for the biggest journey you might take once a year you are making a mistake since you'll be carrying that battery around for all your smaller trips.

Those ADSL filters that were on every phone jack. I have a surprising number of them as they came with every router and some part of me believes that may be useful one day.
