That's what I figured, too! I was leaving the layout and illustrations up to the illustrator/pub, but lately, I've been hearing that paginating is a good thing to show how the author imagines the flow of the story. Great to get an illustrator's opinion! Thank you!

For #kidlit picture book authors: do you add page numbers to your manuscripts so that agents can get a sense of how you want the story to be laid out, or do you let the agent/pub/illustrator work that out as they please? #writingcommunity

Children's book illustrators: character consistency is EVERYTHING in children's books. Can you draw your character from different angles? Different emotions? In different situations? Publishers need to know this.

Kidlit illustrators, consider how your illustrations are creating emotional resonance in a story. Pay attention to the details. A shared smile between siblings, a stuffed animal clutched tight, a wayward sock, a band-aid on a knee—these small touches tell deeper stories.

I just found out I'm a longlist winner of the November 2024 Tadpole Press 100-Word Writing Contest! Out of 1,576 entries I was one of 268 to be selected for the longlist. I'm pretty proud tbh, this was my first writing contest, and even though it was only 100 words, it was still very challenging.

I feel this haha, but then sometimes something will just click and it’ll be easy to wrap up the ones you’ve been avoiding. I wasn’t really happy with “No!” till I made one or two small edits that changed the entire tone of the book.
