BAD writing advice: "If writing is hard, you should do something else." I'd never tell someone to quit writing if it's difficult for them. Struggling w/ your writing is VERY NORMAL. It means you're pushing yourself to get the best story out.

Lynnette Novak, Literary Agent @lynnettenovak.bsky.social · 14/07/2026

If you couldn't write in your genre (for whatever reason), what genre would you write and why?

241

Lynnette Novak, Literary Agent @lynnettenovak.bsky.social · 13/07/2026

Hey writers! What's the hardest for you to write: beginnings, middles, endings. And why?

620

Lynnette Novak, Literary Agent @lynnettenovak.bsky.social · 08/07/2026

Why are you writing a book? There are no wrong answers. I'm just curious.

And the more times we see the same project, the less objective we can be. Meaning: We might miss issues if we've had to go through many rounds of edits because we become too familiar with the work, just as you do. 2/2

Here's another piece of bad advice. "You don't have to worry about editing your book. That's what editorial agents are for." No. It's not. While we will edit your MS and help you make it stronger, it still needs to come to us as polished as possible. 1/2

After agenting for 9 years, I've heard a lot of bad advice for writers like: "Don't write your novel before querying. Contact agents with your idea. If there's interest, write the book. Don't waste your time writing something they don't want." 1/2

Struggling with query rejections? If you've workshopped your query package and still haven't gotten any requests, it might not be your writing. It's likely the market. Times are tough right now. Hang in there!

Girl sitting in a library next to a sunny window. She’s reading a book called “A Windy Day,” while her hair is being blown upwards, leaves in hair, and kites coming out of the book. On the floor, a book about Egypt with sand spilling out, a snake book with a snake tail, and a book on marine life with an octopus tentacle and fish fin.

Website carrieannebradshaw.com with a drawing of the same girl as first image after the library. Her hair is tangled with leaves. She is pulling her haul of books in a pink wagon. Her black cat is sitting on top of the books, reaching for two birds who have flown out of the top book, which has a tree branch coming out of it. All in front of a sunset color background.
