At the risk of seeming like an Apple stan, look at this design (first image). Yes it has marketing stuff on there to make marketing happy. But it’s at least pretty. And clean. You can find what you need. It’s *not busy*. And if you want all that other stuff, it’s down in the footer (second image).

Yet the vast majority of web sites are chock full of this stuff. And how annoying for the typical person! I went to see this company’s job postings. Where are they? Who knows! I had to guess. (It also drives me crazy they almost all call jobs “careers”, but that’s a separate post.)

These goals are in greater or lesser conflict. If it were me, there would be ZERO marketing info front and center on a company web page. None. Does *anyone* go to a corp website thinking, “Gosh, I really want to see ads for their new products!”? No. That number is zero.

The major difficulty I have when doing web site design are the competing interests: - folks in engineering, QA, support, hiring, content, etc want to relay info - marketing (& some sales) want to hype things - sales wants to lower the bar to selling stuff - execs want to brag about themselves

As a side note: After several decades of observation, it’s clear to me that, politically at least, “libertarian” is just a way to say, “I vote Republican but I’m embarassed to admit it.” While there are a *tiny few* who don’t, the vast majority are, well, Rand Paul.
