(lizard->snake; hey, it's close enough, okay?) A snake slithered by, but it was of the usual size and had only one head rather than eight. #WIPSnips

There were juicy slabs of boar meat on skewers, rice balls seasoned with vinegar, grilled mushrooms, baked sweet potatoes, and pickled radishes. The Elder even passed around a jug of wine from the storehouse, and soon the sounds of drunken singing and dancing filled the night. #WIPSnips

When the boy finally struck, Mako could see every instant of the movement in sharp detail. Muscles and tendons expanded and contracted beneath the skin of his arms, and his chest deflated as he exhaled. The iron spearhead shot downward. The boar flinched at the sudden movement. #WIPSnips

Still dazed from her head injury and the fading arousal, Mako found herself swept up and placed in the saddle. Oda’s horse had calmed down, and someone had done what they could to stem the bleeding from the arrow wound. The sturdy animal carried on unfazed. #WIPSnips

Then there was nothing save for a bitter disappointment. Not in her father—who was simply following his instincts, no different from a feral beast stalking its prey—but in herself for letting her guard down in his presence. She should have known better. #WIPSnips

A good opportunity to talk about my book! Title: Life After Dusk Genre: SF/Fantasy Word Count: Around 70,000 Funniest moment: See pic.

The cover of Life After Dusk by Douglas Jern, along with a few short sentences describing the book.
Norse mythology retelling
Post-apocalyptic
Body horror
Androids and robot dogs
Non-linear storytelling
Undying hope
Searching for purpose
The letter Y...?

“Did I hear you right? You think that wolf could grow even bigger?”
The prosecutor fidgeted and mumbled an affirmative.
“And the snake?” Donner’s voice was shaking. “Over a hundred feet long, you say? Maybe even bigger? And it spits venom?”
He looked up at Grim. His right hand rested on the head of the Grinder at his belt, his fingers caressing the cold metal with a loving touch that bordered on obscene. He even licked his lips. I knew what he was going to say even before he opened his mouth.
“Can I fight them?”
Grim sighed so hard I could almost feel the rush of air from where I sat.
“Why do you have to be like this?”

This one goes to Donner, no contest. In addition to his heritage (spoilers?), his body is augmented with synthetic muscle fibers and cybernetic implants, making him a walking tank with severe anger management issues. He'd shrug off a shotgun blast, let alone a punch. #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

The setting, in which people were extra sensitive to ultraviolet light and couldn't go outside during the day, wasn't as developed as I'd hoped, but I can respect the decision to keep the story focused on Ran's personal development rather than the world at large.

I quite enjoyed this one. Ran was a well-written character with some rather relatable flaws and a satisfying arc. Without spoiling too much, the parallel world essentially acts as a morality lesson to teach her to be a better person, when the girl she bullied back home now bullies her instead.
