the left is not bad and it communicates boris' character well - but for this illust i wanted a balance of his sharp features with a more airy, innocent feel. i can tell how hard i was struggling because i just aimlessly put impressive hair curls everywhere to cope lol

some exploration for my oc Boris' crow beast form 🐦‍⬛❤️

A sketchpage of a crow-like beast with a bare crow-skull for a face, long neck and humanoid body with long feathers tapered along its arms. It's form is covered in shorter feathers, an eerie red glow coming from it's chest and it's eyes. It has long clumps of hair coming from atop its head and pointy ears with golden piercings.
To the left is a fullbody image of the creature, and to the right are two fullbody sketches and a portrait. There are tiny notes around detailing these features.

Description:
I’ve been writing a lot for my comic lately and, without spoiling too much, Boris is supposed to turn into this huge crow beast at the height of the story’s conclusion.
I’ve had it in my head for years, but never actually drew this form! So while I was away from home the last few days, I’ve been doodling some concepts in my hotel room.
The transformation is extremely painful for him, literally coming out from within his bones like a person growing inside of his chest cavity until it breaks apart and this new form is set free. The beast feeds on fear and insecurity, the result of a spiral that had been mounting on him for years and years until he couldn’t keep it away any longer, no one there to help him out of it.

I wanted him to be dark, unsettling and gaunt in appearance while still looking strong and powerful. I haven’t settled on anything just yet but I really like where it’s going and the look of this first draft….

Weirdly, even though his face is a literal crow skull, it still looks like him to me and it makes me soft 😔

i mean, all art doesnt have to be deep masterpieces!!! i love the indulge in some stupid garbage... 'because i wanted to draw it' is a perfectly valid reason on its own hehe. even so, i think all art has meaning and a point of view, sometimes its just a question of whether it is conscious or not.

as an adult im weirdly grateful for it? so many people are terrified of their own company, of what happens when you let your mind run free. i love the people in my life but, it does feel nice to rest assured that, even if i'm the only one enjoying what im doing, im more than ok with that.

i didn't really have friends growing up. ive been writing stories since i can remember, always with deep themes and personal meanings. i would share it sometimes but nobody ever really made the effort to understand it. it was lonely but enjoying my own company was almost a skill i came to hone

pookie 1 and 2 because i need some self indulgence lately… 🫠 i don’t know if im alone in this but seeing my ocs do really pedestrian things like, just… walking and standing there? it makes my heart so happy... like yes mr. dead inside and crow mutant man... enjoy a simple stroll!
