there's a part of me that wonders if you could somehow do away with the rubber membranes, like using microswitches or snap dome switches or something. it would without question change the feel of the controllers but rubber membranes are so hard to get right...

yeah, ironically i think the analog stick problem might be easier to solve than dpads. those aftermarket rubber membranes are no good

i realize this is a "smallest violin in the world" problem but it really is getting dire playing retro games on original hardware because the controllers are all dying. obviously there's a massive supply of used SNES controllers but even if you find one in good shape hardcore play kills it fast

the important part is that konami kukeiha club is who it lists on these vod mutes. it's not like when KinDroSys mutes FF8 vods for "Aye Hold Up." technically you are breaking the rules when you dispute these particular mutes and i could easily see konami and nintendo actually taking action over it
