You have suffered. But take a moment to remember all the vacuum-cleaners that died at age 27. Forever young.

Le'azazel! First-time Israeli voters (18-22 y/o) are more likely to vote for Ben Gvir and Smotrich’s parties than Netanyahu’s Likud. www.middleeasteye.net/news/israeli... Israel certainly puts the 'c'unt' in 'country'.

There's a meme going around in which a hallucinated quote wrongly attributed to Bart Ehrman is accompanied by an hallucinated photo that is not Bart Ehrman, apparently in support of the mythicist view (that Jesus never existed) that real Bart Ehrman wrote a whole book against. We in worst timeline.

As I discussed in "Heaven After The Loss of Heaven", whereas Medieval people had near-death eperiences about demons, post-1960s Christians got therapy during their NDEs, and NOW MAGA Christians are seeing the hyper-masculine MAGA-Jesus. Yeah, I don't think there is another term that combines holding to an error of the past with one's pride in doing just that. I actually had to search for a word that meant this.

True. One of my umbrella terms for the study of religion and conspiracy theory is 'Mumpsimus Studies'. Sure, that combo can be framed in many different ways, yet it certainly feels like the time is ripe to bring back the term 'mumpsimus'.

Good stuff, I'll look out for it. Have you got a copy of their Ghettout Music Conference talk from Jan 1981? Originally you had to get someone to dub you a tape. Copies had an underground circulation among Christian fans for two decades, always with the admonition to keep it secret.

The difference between popular and sacred usages arguably inflected 'Israel' with the biblical idealisation. But would Jews have thought this use sounded 'strange' in later antiquity? No.
000
Dor HaMidbar @dorhamidbar.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
there are interchanges of "Jew" with "Hebrew" in inscriptions and synagogue names (also 'biblical' and indicating Palestine). There are also Jewish expectations to "sleep with all Israel" (JIWE 1.174; 1:187), and at least one equation of Jew/Israelite (albeit in difficult to interpret JIWE 11.48).

The Jewish appropriation of the term 'Israel'' was now centuries old in literature, and "Israel" had been popularized since the second-century BCE (eg on Jewish coins). The inscriptions usually use the ethnic term "Jewish" sure, but

Yonatan Adler @yonatan.bsky.social observes the contrast between ancient Jews calling themselves 'Jews' and rabbis using the biblical term 'Israel' / b'nei yisrael. But would such biblicized language "sounded strange" to most Jews in the early CE? I don't think so.
