Prime Minister Luxon has once again been caught out making claims about local government without having the evidence to back it up. This time it's over his demonstrably inaccurate claim that cycleways are responsible for recent high rates increases. localaotearoa.substack.com/p/luxon-misl...

Luxon misleads over cycleways being responsible for rates increases

Back in December 2024 in a social media post on LinkedIn, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon blamed spending on cycleways for driving increases in local government rates.

I've still got a handful of albums in the backlog, and there's no doubt I'll still be running into stuff I missed well into this year. But here's one last signal boost for the 230 or so #Ska albums I caught in 2024: open.spotify.com/playlist/73k...

The Minister’s decision on the District Plan IHP recommendations was only May 2024 for goodness sake. It’s laughable that The Post wants us to forget this absolutely momentous generational game-changer for the city. I’d like to know bigger achievement by a Wgtn Mayor/Council in the last few decades

dooleydanger @dooleydanger.bsky.social · 26/12/2024

Of course the problem is there’s a certain type of Wellingtonian (including The Post’s current editors) who put no value on the first 2 things on that list (& who are also a little bit racist/sexist). Whatever my dude, you might not like the achievements but they are still significant achievements

dooleydanger @dooleydanger.bsky.social · 26/12/2024

What’s nuts about The Post’s coverage of Tory Whanau is that by the next election she will have led the District Plan through the IHP process (huge), started the Golden Mile upgrade (big), while doing pretty much all WCC could reasonably be expected to do to “fix the pipes”. That’s quite a strong CV

The Go-Go’s “Our Lips Are Sealed” peaks at #20 today in 1981. “That song is really unique in its structure and .. melodically, it’s such a fun song,” said Belinda Carlisle. “And of course, when you get the reaction of the audience to the song when you do it live, it makes it even better.”
