Prime Minister Luxon has once again been caught out making claims about local government without having the evidence to back it up. This time it's over his demonstrably inaccurate claim that cycleways are responsible for recent high rates increases. localaotearoa.substack.com/p/luxon-misl...

Luxon misleads over cycleways being responsible for rates increases

Back in December 2024 in a social media post on LinkedIn, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon blamed spending on cycleways for driving increases in local government rates.

I've still got a handful of albums in the backlog, and there's no doubt I'll still be running into stuff I missed well into this year. But here's one last signal boost for the 230 or so #Ska albums I caught in 2024: open.spotify.com/playlist/73k...

What’s nuts about The Post’s coverage of Tory Whanau is that by the next election she will have led the District Plan through the IHP process (huge), started the Golden Mile upgrade (big), while doing pretty much all WCC could reasonably be expected to do to “fix the pipes”. That’s quite a strong CV

The Go-Go’s “Our Lips Are Sealed” peaks at #20 today in 1981. “That song is really unique in its structure and .. melodically, it’s such a fun song,” said Belinda Carlisle. “And of course, when you get the reaction of the audience to the song when you do it live, it makes it even better.”

I was at the first of these shows. It was incredible, never experienced anything else quite like it. The pure, unadulterated love for Madness & the almost overwhelming crushing physicality of the crowd. 35,000 people literally as one

After 10 years of advocacy I won’t be resurrecting @ibcycleway here. At a local level that battle is pretty much won as WCC (finally!) completes work at the Island Bay shops & then through Berhampore & Newtown to the city. Will still have occasional Wellington/urbanism reckons though
