I just read Chapter 7. Except that the author didn't anticipate Musk to be the principal agent of destruction in dismantling the federal bureaucracy (who could have?), the chapter reads like today's news. Wait for it: the root of the Right's hatred of the "admin. state" is---Hegel? Apparently so.

Thank you @kkdumez.bsky.social for introducing me to this quote from Frederick Douglass, which comes from an 1857 speech he gave in Canandaigua, New York.

Reminds me of the "Super Patriot" cartoon published in Mad Magazine back in 1968.

How should we protest the inauguration of a felon, adjudicated rapist, and insurrectionist? Don't attend it or watch it on TV, of course. But there's more that we can do. A proposed "day of inaction" is in the works. We can send a message that this is not OK!

That's the 2016 Person of the Year cover, not this year's (yes, he got Time's nod eight years ago too). This year's looks like this:

At least when they named him "person of the year" back in 2016 they created a cover that hinted far less as an endorsement than this time around. (Look at the tattered chair, for example.) Meh.
