I've studied cancer and Alzheimer's and although cancer also tears families apart, losing your sense of self and your bonds with loved ones, feels like a fate worse than. Even though drugs removing Aβ plaques have disappointed, we hold out hope for an effective treatment for this terrible disease.💜

The CDC has confirmed the first case of severe human H5N1 in the US, the case in Louisiana. Prelim sequencing says its genotype D1.1, which IS the genotype seen in the Canadian teen and NOT the one seen in cattle and other US human cases (B3.13). Exposure thought to be wild bird/backyard flock. 🧪

New Alzheimer's disease publication from my post-doc work at OHSU, just out the other day.😍🔬🧑‍🔬 Essentially, it looks at metabolome changes that correlate with 1) A-beta plaques, 2) Cognitive function, 3) Treatment with our centella asiatica whole plant extract. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

During my post-doc, I had an opportunity to do some TEM imaging. I was specifically looking at mitochondrial biogenesis & it really didn't amount to anything concrete but I do like the pictures. This particular picture is of a cortical neuron and a zoomed in picture of the cell body end of the axon.
