Full state pension is already less than 50%of the minimum wage one of the worst in Europe. This is why the triple lock was introduced. Benefit/Pension/NHS Spending in the UK low compared to most of Europe.

I've 2 cats, insurance getting more expensive especially as they get older and requires an annual vacination then VAT on top. ID chips are pushig towards annual subscription. Insurance doesn't cover dental.

it would cost over £40000 to extend my lease and although I'm fortunate to have the funds to do so I'll spend that money on enjoying life. My property will end up in the hands of the state if me or my wife need care later on in life.

I suggest you look at how much it costs to extend the lease. Without extending your lease you can't sell your property. It's not like renting as you have maintain your property.
