Hey Event Viewer, why did Windows randomly shut down my computer this morning? ...cool, awesome. So very helpful of you. (Possibly update related? But that's usually a restart, not a shutdown, and it still has a yellow dot asking me to schedule a restart, so i dunno.)
The process C:\windows\system32\winlogon.exe ([MyComputer]) has initiated the power off of computer [MyComputer] on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: No title for this reason could be found
 Reason Code: 0x500ff
 Shutdown Type: power off

I guess it kind of falls under "Disambiguation"? But it includes all of "I'm old and/or out of touch, please let me know what meme you're referencing/what news story this is about/what celebrity that is."

Pretty much anyone in CA can get the covid vaccine without a note. (One of the good things Newsom did before he got right-wing curious.)

I'm also feeling a little chilly now, but i'm not sure if that's a vaccine side-effect or because i had to get up super early for an east-coast meeting, the temperature outside has dropped at least 20 degrees over the last few days, and we haven't adjusted our thermostat to account for it yet.

I went ahead and did the vaccine hat trick yesterday afternoon. The shingles arm started getting sore within an hour or two while the covid/flu arm felt fine last night, but this morning the covid/flu arm feels a little more sore than the shingles arm.

My family always said "Ick-be-in-be" for "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" instead of saying the full name or spelling out the ICBINB acronym. Which seems like the obviously easier option, but no one else i've ever talked to does that. (Re: Family dialects)

Walgreens says i can get up to 4 vaccinations at a time. Is it a bad idea to get flu, covid, and my second shingles vaccines all at the same time? (You know what they say, "that's why god gave us three arms"... wait, hold on a second...)

And post-launch its ads barely ever try to represent itself as a consistent part of Asimov's Foundation universe (either book or tv show.) My "favorite" was the time it presented itself as being set on some kind of space station orbiting a near future Earth with modern nations still in existence.
An ad for "Foundation: Galactic Frontier", featuring a woman walking down a hanger bay that appears to lead into space but is full of what look like modern day fighter jets and there's a South Korean flag painted on the wall.A second scene from the same "Foundation: Galactic Frontier" ad, doubling down on the Earth setting, with a world map prominently on one of the displays, with a closeup of what appears to be either a tactical map of both South and North Korea (or possibly even map of a reunified nation?) on the big display in the center, with more South Korean banners on the wall.

Ads misrepresenting mobile games is pretty old hat at this point, but i feel like you could have an entire side-gig trying to identify the real world game whose actual gameplay is most like whatever "Foundation: Galactic Frontier" is pretending to be in each of its many ads.

I've had times with AI (usage mandated by work, not by choice) where it arrives at a faulty conclusion. And i tell it it's probably wrong, and after every piece of evidence provided against the conclusion it comes up with an even more convoluted case for how no actually, it might still be correct.

JoCo is a convention on a boat, so if you want something like it without the boat it would just be a convention. Given the diversity of media covered and the number of performers on JoCo, DragonCon might be the closest match on land?

It's a great way to get introduced to cruising (the 2017 JoCo was Avalyn's first cruise experience) but it's also a very expensive way. JoCo (like most/all themed cruises) is much more expensive than a "normal" cruise. (You get what you pay for of course, and what you're getting is a lot.)

HOPPA 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸
Statement van Beoga music:

We have made the decision to depart as Ed Sheeran's band on the remaining US Loop tour, following the silencing of Macklemore by zionist lobbies.
We are a traditional Irish band who never saw ourselves playing in stadiums of that size and that opportunity is not lost on us. We have been friends with Ed for over 10 years now and will continue to be. We believe in dialogue as a means of progressing the plight of the Palestinian people.2/3
As musicians, playing to those crowds every night is the stuff of dreams but to play in venues that silence anyone advocating for a Free Palestine is simply not an option for us.
It's important that everyone knows that the real enemy is the zionist lobby. They have worked tirelessly to silence artists who want to speak freely about a genocide happening before our eyes, for fear of retribution.
Research how much Robert Kraft has done to fight the BDS movement. That will give you a sense of what we've all been up against.
We were there for Macklemore's performance and speech. We fully supported his message, so did most of the audience in Met Life Stadium which terrifies the lobbies. Go back and read the transcript if you're in doubt. We are Irish people who understand colonialism. As founding members of the Irish Artists For Palestine movement, we are committed activists for justice and will continue to be.
This whole episode is once again serving to distract from the real issue, over 1000 Palestinians have been killed since the most recent so-called ceasefire.
Up the workers.
Free Palestine.

Aaron Rowe Statemen:
I have made the decision to withdraw as a support act for Ed Sheeran's 'The Loop' North American Tour.
I don't take the decision lightly. Ed has been a friend to me and has changed my life, I could never thank him enough for this.
But as Irish people we know all too well about genocide, forced famine and violent occupation.
I cannot stand by and allow billionaires to use their position of power to silence the rightful voices of those who speak up against Israeli genocide and who highlight the savage murder of children.
I would lose all respect for myself to carry on as normal.
I need to be true to myself and my ancestors who resisted colonisation, and fought for a freedom that I enjoy today in Ireland.

"Someone You Can Build a Nest In" by John Wiswell was good (though that might be Reverse Monster Romance?) If you think angels and demons count as monsters and you want something _very_ spicy, there's Elliott Kay's "Good Intentions". (The content warning for which is worth reading on its own.)

I got a plate put in for a broken wrist about 13 years ago. They told me that if i wanted i could get another surgery to get the plate out after it healed, but i opted not to, so it's still there. (Seems like it will only be an issue if i ever need to get an MRI?)

E.E. Doc Smith's "Lensman" series definitely belongs in the list, or maybe a recursive list of "these are the things that tell you how the previous generation got to where they were." You can see so many influences on more modern stuff in it, but everything in it has aged _so_ much.

Stargate SG-1: Have nudity one time in your very first episode because you thought you were going to be an edgy cable channel show. Then switch to "family friendly" for the rest of your 10 seasons & 214 episodes. Then have have an eternal "Nudity" content warning for the entire run on Netflix.

Everyone "acts" differently when they're around people. And differently for each person or group of people. And for each different situation you're in. The closest thing we have to "being natural" is being alone in a room by ourselves, and that's not very natural to do for long periods either.

My hazy memories suggest that that feeling was real, but it lasted for maybe a day or two before those of us who weren't interested in performative Patriotism realized that things were taking a turn. (Okay, we knew that things might take a turn before that, but were disappointed to see it happen.)

(I guess it's something that i don't need to use often enough to get used to, but often enough to get really annoyed by when i re-encounter it, especially since the changes added absolutely no benefit that i can see and just add an extra step to each task.)

Several years ago Microsoft changed MS Paint to add (IMHO) unnecessary extra steps to "Save As" and "Image Properties" (for resizing), and my decades of muscle memory still has not recovered from the disruption to my workflow when using it.

I would (initially) accept a UBI as low as $100 a month as long as it was actually distributed to everyone & was enshrined in law & not up to the whims of a single person. Once it exists in any form (and we see the country doesn't immediately collapse =P) we can argue about the right amount later.

A $5k check (which we'll never actually get) wouldn't be bad thing per se if it was properly budgeted for (which it wouldn't be.) But a one time check is a pretty far cry from actual UBI. (Not that the people complaining about the idea in the article likely care about the difference.)

The one "big toy" i'm tempted by would be a console of "Dance Maniax 2nd Mix Append J-Paradise". Aside from the cost and difficulty of obtaining and maintaining it, we don't really have space inside to put it, and "cleaning out the garage" has been a pending task for the 3 years since we moved in =P

History seems to suggest that Americans are very resistant to changes to their own state, even in cases where it makes some logical sense. (Eastern WA & OR => Lincoln, or splitting CA into multiple states.) Also, after this proposed change would the other 49 states all be Old America?

Trump has the ability to constantly prove that i'm even more naive than i thought i was. But i would think that even just suggesting the name of your state should be changed by federal mandate would piss off _everyone_ in that state, regardless of political affiliation.

As someone who used to work on (among other things) finite state AI in video games in the 00s, the deliberate attempt by LLM supporters to lump all AI models together into the same bucket in order to provide cover for their product is rather depressing. But it seems like fait accompli at this point.
