of 40 million people that hate you and don't want to be administered by you would be a huge challenge no matter what. Very openly having such plans and actively teaching the citizens about peaceful resistance would also serve as a deterrent.

A former Qc Premier advisor a while back offered a list of suggestions to make managing Canada and the provinces by an occupying force a very costly nightmare. It included designing ahead official work-to-rule contingency plans federal bureaucrats would activate. Another was to have all bilingual

I have plenty that can take a good frost and snow, but for a few things goodbyes will be in order Friday, from the look of things here. Pity as I see there are nights with a low of 12 the week after. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The characters are all engaging, the mystery tragic and gripping, the social/historical background fascinating (if sometime horrifying), the writing sharp but atmospheric. Truly a great novel from a Tartan Noir master who just passed away and is already much missed. 📚💙⚡

Bringing back the core players of the Blackhouse and continuing their personal stories, the second novel focuses also on a 75 y.o. afflicted by dementia (his POV chapters are extremely touching) whose past suddenly becomes a mystery he can't provide anymore the answers to.

#76 read n 2026. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This one has it all. Almost as much a social novel and family drama as a crime fiction mystery this second book in the great Peter May's Lewis Trilogy is just superb. It brings to life the Outer Hebrides and its people, the stark beauty as well as the darker realities 📚💙⚡

#75 read in 2026. A mystery novella set in a book shop in Baltimore. A somewhat conventional mystery featuring the protagonist from a regular series I haven't read. It lacked a bit of a Je ne sais quoi to stand out as a novella, though her character felt like it could be fun at novel length 📚💙⚡

#74 read in 2026. An inventive mystery novella by the Charles Todd mother-son writing duo set in 1915 England where a intriguing little box containing a miniature book passes from one owner to another in a chain of often dark and tragic circumstances. 📚💙⚡ I also love their Ian Rutledge series.

Hi. I'm rotating through these four: Volker Kutscher's Babylon Berlin, Peter May's The Lewis Man, Jacqueline Winspear's Pardonable Lies and Fred Anderson's Crucible of War. Next when one is done will be Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe's Fury or Arturo Pérez-Reverte's El Sol de Breda (Alatriste 3)

Like Louise Arbour, she stands for everything the Trump administration has turned its back on. He’ll be pissed, once this gets explained to him. I don’t think there was any real chance of Mark Carney winning this year, before what he set in motion bears fruit. But… pheewww, indeed.
