#69 read in 2026, first for October. 📚💙 An enjoyable and often darkly funny French classic from 1897, first in a tetralogy set during the Dreyfus affair, its author along his friend Zola a great defender of the accused. Irony and social satire, merciless to clergy and politicians alike, a tale of

New beer ad campaign launched today in Québec. "Proudly banned in the USA". 😂 (Fort) Necessity is the mother of invention. Our tradition of taking no crap from US presidents is older than the presidency itself and the USA (July 3, 1754. We made young Washington surrender and run back home)

#67 read in 2026. The third Rebus novel, most interesting for how it brings Rebus in London where he's a fish out of the water. The serial killer storyline is good and well written, but isn't among the truly memorable ones in that sub-genre that got terribly overdone in the '90s. 📚💙⚡

#62 read in 2026. A fourth Maigret novel from the early 30s, striking in the original French its modern feel and the originality of its mystery, in which Jules Maigret, wth a bit of a guilty conscience tries to unravel the tragedy behind a suicide he may well have triggered.

That's got to be the most pathetic attempt to divide Québécois I've ever seen, also a new attempt to undermine our sovereignty and interfere in our elections. As of a poll from two days ago 85% of Québécois wished PM Carney to take the hard line against the US, 9% above the national average.
I would never interfere with Canadians speaking French! In fact, I have never even thought of doing such a stupid thing. This lie was made up by a weak and ineffective Prime Minister in an attempt to gain political support, which he has totally lost, from the people of Quebec. I love French Canadians!
