It’s a content creation day around here. Trying to keep my ADHD brain engaged with lists and smaller goals. With so many spinning plates it can be hard to stay focused.

A purple post it listing tasks to be done today. Lots of recording and editing and writing.

Did you know that you can install Bluesky as an app from any of the main browsers? It will no longer appear as a tab in your browser but will display as it's own thing. No more trying to find the right tab! I've done this on my phone before. Here are the three button presses in Chrome:

Steps to install a web page as an app:
1 - Click on the three dots
2 - Click on Cast, save and share
3 - Click on Install page as app

@samwho.dev pops up everywhere. :) Reading “Writing for Developers: Blogs that get read” by Piotr Sarna and Cynthia Dunlop on this rainy Sunday afternoon.

Highlighted section from book: “For example, two wildly popular Hacker News posts in 2023 were interesting takes on memory allocation and load balancing (https://samwho.dev/memory-allocation/ and https://samwho.dev/load-balancing/, respectively). Those two topics have been discussed for ages. But the author, Sam Rose, invested tremendous thought and time in explaining these concepts in a unique way: with visualizations and even interactive playgrounds. And the effort paid off. The notoriously snarky comment section was actually teeming with compliments.”

Pretty excited for this. Love a good spy drama and what I remember of season 1 was great.

Netflix card showing season two of the recruit starting on Jan 30.

This looks a bit dull but my eldest wanted something to hang his headphones on. We thought about the problem, sketched it on paper, sketched it in tinkercad, sent it to the 3d printer and screwed it in to his desk. This felt pretty cool.

When I was visiting Seattle earlier in the month, @simonplend.bsky.social and I took the ferry to Bainbridge. There are a ton of art spaces there and one of them had this series of kinetic sculptures that were just breath-taking. Here's a video of one of them. I found them super inspiring.

So, I printed a watering can for myself but it was too big and so I decided to scale it down and print a smaller one. Looks very cute beside its big brother. Seeing a bit of stringing which I think is due to extra humidity. Need to decide if an AMS or custom solution will be best.

Got some plants for my office so thought I’d print a watering can. I wondered about scaling it down but worried about water flow. Don’t think that’ll be an issue but it is bigger than I expected.

📚💙 Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson Travelling from UK to the US, jet lag and a throat infection all gave me enough time to read the latest book of the Storm Light archives. So good. Such an interesting end to this series. Really loved the conclusions of each characters narrative.

📚💙 The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England by Brandon Sanderson Lots of airports and wandering around Edinburgh on my own has given time to read even more. This was a fun romp through a parallel universe while I wait on the next Stormlight book!

This teaching room is excellent. I was going to write that anyway and then I realised the desk is an electronic standing desk. Epic. My favourite feature has been the ability to send my second display to each of the students second screens. No squinting at the display.

Success! Now to workout if I should do something fancy with the WiFi aspect of the board. I don’t have a battery for it though, maybe I should get one before I leave. Also, realise I printed the wrong cover. Anyone want a cover for the 2040, I’m about to print one for the 2040w.

💙📚 Just finished Sailing to Sarantium by Guy Gabriel Kay in time for bed. It’s historical fiction in a semi-fantasy world that feels a bit like Byzantium but everyone has Roman names. I would prefer more over magic but appreciated the magic of art and the journey from grief to new life.
