It scares me so much if people are like "haha, that's never gonna happen" about Trump's plans. E.g., Blinken "The idea expressed about Greenland is [...] obviously one that’s not going to happen." People didn't believe what Hitler was up to until it was too late — although he had said it clearly.

Even without US leaving NATO there's the EU treaty's mutual defense article 42(7). But would we really attack the US? They're already on Greenland... I sure hope!

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. Denmark would request NATO assistance, but decision at NATO are taken unanimously, and US would, of course, object. There's also EU mutual defense clause, but knowing the heroism (sarcasm) of my EU compatriots — Greenland is gone already.

The only way to beat Trump is for all the countries he plans to attack to respond in unison: That maximizes the pain for American consumers and might force Trump to back down. What's happening, though, is that the EU will only retaliate when Trump attacks, i.e., is finished with Canada.
