I like it. It should give similar story potential as the old Ironman/Ironwoman Broadway matches, or even a Championship Scramble, but without quite so much dead time as you can spread the load better amongst the competitors.

'Melmac' as an alien world is brought up in Season 3, Episode 9 "Alas, Poor Mork, We Knew Him Well", as a hypochondriac Mork chucks a dinner plate out the door at resident loony Exidor, who proclaims it a craft from the Melmac galaxy.
