The absolute state of gaming in the big 2026

Playstation, Xbox, and Epic Games send themselves back to the lobby with baffling business decisions, while Steam is executed by AI tech giants. Nintendo sits in the middle, confused and contemplating how it will live up to Playstation and Xbox's legendary failures.

yeah, agreed. I always interpreted it as Wart and his crew taking control of the general populace’s dreams as well since that seemed to be the main thing with Subcon (he literally takes control of a dream machine) - probably had everyone stuck with nightmares or something until he was stopped

real talk though, nice addition. The GBA Pokémon games have a nice oomph to their OSTs. The instrumentation of them has always been appealing to me

if nintendo wasn’t full of COWARDS they would’ve patched back in boost mode to NSMBU Deluxe with mouse mode support…

rip boost mode, you would’ve loved switch 2 mouse mode

funny how similar this actually is. Five distinct categories, one being for misc challenges, and others being for coin collection, time, and defeating enemies (in lieu of 1-up challenges). Only one that doesn’t match up directly is staying invincible, for obvious reasons (no boost mode)

New music is cool, but yeah, insane. It’s like every exciting announcement from Nintendo these days has to come with a curling finger on the monkey’s paw. Maybe they’ll end up revealing there’s more than meets the eye, but I can’t imagine anything justifying $70… and this is coming from a Mario nut

020

DoctorTricky @doctortricky.bsky.social · 12/09/2025

Direct thoughts… Mario Tennis is sick, wasn’t sure they were going to do another one so soon when the one on Switch is still fine. Virtual Boy NSO is hilarious as well. Feels like Switch 2 is still missing a killer app though and this Direct did nothing to change that. Let alone Nintendo pricing…

That’s fair, I can’t say I cared too much about 64 but at least Sunshine had a valid improvement in the form of widescreen. 3D All Stars had issues regardless of that. Meanwhile two Galaxy games are double what you would’ve gotten them for on Wii U and the only new content is… for the storybook???

140

DoctorTricky @doctortricky.bsky.social · 12/09/2025

how is this $70 when 3D All Stars was $60 and had a whole extra game, insane

DoctorTricky @doctortricky.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

I can also vouch for clubhouse games, it’s been so nice finding new life in my old cartridge by using it to play card games with friends lol. It’s also perfect for gameshare considering the latency from streaming doesn’t really impact a game like that

DoctorTricky @doctortricky.bsky.social · 09/07/2025

You can play the Mario Party mode within Jamboree TV (since that’s also how you get access to the new game rules), so I assume that’s how you can play the original mode with better visuals.

Hello! Do you care about THE STORY in mascot platformers, or anything else others deem painfully nerdy and unimportant? I wrote an essay on why that's harmless at worst, needful at best. It's inspired by and dedicated to people I love. Please take a look! altermentality.wordpress.com/2025/06/21/t...

The Lorekeepers: In Defense of Caring Too Much

So! What are we caring about today? As I start this essay, it is June 18, 2025, the day when I woke up extra early to watch 16 minutes of footage about a Donkey Kong game. [As I finish, it is now J…
