Not only was he a talented draftsman, he was also a talented programmer in the early days of computers. He drew most of the USGS papers models that can be cut out and folded into 3-D fossils, dinosaurs, plate boundaries, etc.

My doctor asked me to take my blood pressure a couple of times a day. Turns out it is lowest after fishing. Obviously, I need to do more fishing.

So he’s jailed for sexual abuse of boys in Ohio, released early for “exemplary behavior” (i.e. no little boys in prison with him) and immediately arrested again on federal charges of sexual abuse of boys in Haiti. 30 years is not a long enough sentence.

I don’t think sinkhole is the appropriate description. It looks like the house is built on pylons and the fill underneath it was eroded away by the storm. Is that’s the case, the houses all along that stretch of beach are probably similarly constructed. Not a house a geologist would buy.

My Mother’s home was owned by a Russian immigrant, staffed by Ukrainians and Romanians. My Aunt’s home is owned by Kenyans staffed by Haitian and Tanzanian immigrants. Each home cares for 5 people. If ICE had its way, 2000+ senior citizens in Portland alone could be homeless overnight.

We have just moved my Aunt into an adult care home, where she can get the care she needs as her dementia and disabilities progress. My mother lived for 8 years in such a home. There are about 430 such places in Portland OR, nearly all of them staffed by immigrants. #ImmigrantsMakeUsGreat

Only plus side, she is safe tonight and she will now have a referral to skilled nursing, something my sisters and I were working on before fall #3. Turns out, even after 2 falls in 5 hours, you need to be sent from a hospital to skilled nursing if you want insurance to pay…. (6/6)

Why didn’t they admit her on her second ER visit of the night? Why didn’t her residence monitor her more closely after 2 falls in 5 hours? It makes me so angry. I am a 3 hour drive away from my Aunt, my sisters are in another state. We’re working hard to help, but it takes time (5/6)

I need to vent. Topic-elder health care. My Aunt (86, in assisted living) was hospitalized for 2 days due to a UTI needing IV antibiotics. She was released late Wednesday, with orders to use a walker. She has dementia, further exacerbated by the UTI. She can’t remember that she can’t walk. 1/6

That’s actually pretty depressing. The most important thing that can happen in college is young people expanding their worldview through exposure to new ideas, expansion of critical thinking skills, and gains in knowledge. That’s not indoctrination, that’s education.
