Hope springs eternal in the face of all evidence to the contrary, I guess.

Just saw the finale of #TheAmazingDigitalCircus. I can only describe it as like watching The End of Evangelion, only with a happy ending. Kudos to Gooseworx and her team for pulling this off. You never really want the story to end, but I think it's a good one.

It felt like it was written by an intelligent cockroach that didn't quite grasp the thought processes of humans.

I finally saw Love on a Leash last night in Bigscreen VR and few movies have made me want to punch a director quite like that one.

Except why should I care that she goes over to the enemy's side and then ends up getting killed? And then her death inspires another child to murder Amuro Ray's girlfriend.

Even in the context of the movie, characters are just reacting to her like she is the biggest weirdo ever. She literally wanders into the scene and starts yelling at Chen for no reason whatsoever.

My problem with CCA is always going to be Quess. She's a foolish and easily manipulated child who unleashes so much chaos, and I just never found her very likable or relatable.

A huge graphical weakness of these movies is that they have too many high-speed aerial combat scenes in the dark between mobile suits that don't have any sort of distinct silhouette. So you don't know who is doing what, or what is really happening.

010

Neil Nadelman (Currently clean on OPSEC) @docsane.bsky.social · 15/05/2026

The closest thing to a real antagonist in this story doesn't appear till the last 10 minutes, amidst a battle, and with no setup at all. And it's only then that Hathaway becomes halfway interesting as a character. And the thing is, he should be very interesting.

110

Neil Nadelman (Currently clean on OPSEC) @docsane.bsky.social · 15/05/2026

In some ways, this movie series is like Star Trek: Discovery. We really follow a handful of characters within a large cast who are mostly underdeveloped and barely used. This story either should have been restructured for the film or else given a 13 episode series to flesh things out.

120

Neil Nadelman (Currently clean on OPSEC) @docsane.bsky.social · 15/05/2026

Hathaway himself is a dour cypher through most of the story. We really aren't allowed fully inside of his head till the climactic Xi vs Alyzeus battle at the end. I never read the original novel. How much of this is the fault of the original material?

120

Neil Nadelman (Currently clean on OPSEC) @docsane.bsky.social · 15/05/2026

Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway II is better than part 1, but my God, it's so frustrating to watch. The story has really compelling elements, but the pacing is glacial. Filled with potentially interesting characters who are barely established before being killed.

Although, to be fair, one of the cops in this shot is holding a phone to allow the guy in the middle (A famous rapper) to live stream a protest song. So that guy is kind of nice.

Prerequisite image from the 2019 anime Carol & Tuesday. Its politics, examining the role of AI in art and politics, weaponization of immigration issues, and trans issues were scarily prescient. In the series, Mars Immigration and Customs Enforcement (MICE) were definitely not nice.

In a scene from the 2019 anime Carol and Tuesday, two officers of Mars Immigration and Customs Enforcement (MICE) stand in front of a cell holding three Black men who have been arrested as illegal refugees from Earth.

One officer is holding a phone to allow a large man wearing a yellow jumpsuit to live stream a protest song.

His plan for that one is to make it 2 hours long. Dirty Dog will be the shooter and we'll meet his mother, who is an evil witch. (She's the one who gave him the magic juice in order to make the Dirty Dog Virus.)

Yeah, that's Virus Wars. The only other complete one he's done is Cool Cat Saves The Kids, which is astonishingly not as bad. It also somehow has appearances by Erik Estrada and Vivica A. Fox. He needs to make Cool Cat Stops A School Shooting and complete the trilogy.

The main character is a cat who is clearly played by the director wearing a fursuit. And it is stated outright in the story that this cat is the result of a man who has apparently fucked a humanoid cat.
