Chelsea vs Everton, today - two clubs whose fans were entertained by the skills of Pat Nevin. The Scottish forward called in for a chat with us in St Luke’s a couple of years ago. Watch it, here: youtu.be/vYZqg9kiuTU?...

Actually romantic (I think is the title from my brief excursion with the album - my daughter is a fan)

One of the tracks also sounds like Where is My Mind? By #Pixies

Current reading..been on a real #Dylan kick at the moment and just finished Vol.1 of Chronicles. Richard Thomas' Why Dylan Matters follows it up nicely..often one book leads to another and I'm more and more fascinated by Dylan's appropriation of Greek myth so I'm cracking on with The Odyssey

Giving The Blue Hour another play. I think it's by far my favourite of the #Suede mark 2 albums. Wastelands is a great track (the best one that never went on ANM).

Heyyy just checking back to see, now the dust has settled, if opinions have shifted. Sorry to say that I think it's fine but it hasn't really drawn me back in the way id hoped it would

110

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 09/09/2025

No. I don't think it will..

000

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 06/09/2025

God it's really really poor!

010

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

On the back of our chat earlier I registered to ANM. I still don't think it's awful but it's incredibly slight isn't?

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

Yeah I mean it's not bad but again that talk sing thing the wire does on the opening track and the fact that decline and fall sounds like the theme tune to this morning took me out of it a bit. I loved the previous album though

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

Oh you mean between an atom is bottom half? Fair enough

010

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

Yeah that talky singy thing grates

100

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

Yee, to be fair I'm enjoying it as a whole more on the second listen

110

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

I mean I never thought it was half as bad as the band made out, but it's far from the best

100

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

Maybe it says more about me that my three favourite bands manica, suede and pulp have all published big albums this year and I've been underwhelmed by all of them.

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

Oh the atom one by a million miles. Not find it antidepressants

110

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

Maybe it didn't come off as I'd hoped

010

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

... other people thought and perhaps engaging meaningfully and honestly with those opinions

210

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

It absolutely doesn't give it any validity I agree - and that wasn't the intention. So apologies for that. The eyeroll was perhaps also a bit excessive (again apologies) but things can also be objectively true or not true. I responded because I entered a search I'm the hope of finding out what...

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

I think it'll probably grow on me

000

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

....on the early albums. I still can't get on with the talk-sing thing he's been doing for a while though

100

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

Ok in my opinion. 🙄 In my opinion as a fan of over 30 years, it's a really good album but it's not the best since 94. It's very similar to autofiction (again not a bad thing) but it's no Coming Up (although Between an Atom and a Star is the most Suede-like abe perhaps wouldn't be out of place...

Matt Melia @docmelia.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

It's not though. It's very good but not that.

Listening to the audiobook of #AdamBuxton 's new book. It's fantastic. Chapter 14 'The coming storm is quite emotional.' love also he goes over #MarkESmith on Vinyl Justice. 'You look like an egg'. youtu.be/oMyHNmiLpWs?...

Going out on a bit of a limb here but I would say Psychomania is one of the blueprints for The Lost Boys

Looking forward to this. #OsgoodPerkins is one of the few directors making actually interesting horror films these days
