One of Cuomo's mistakes in the NYC mayoral rave was buying up a ton of radio ads. You know who listens to NYC radio? People who don't live in NYC and drive into the City to work. These people can't vote in the Mayoral race.

Whatever critiques of Dave might be valid these days, none of these other guys were investigating and reporting insider wrestling news in thr literal 1970s at the risk of his bodily health. Some people really think it's as simple as listing TV ratings and giving opinions. It isn't.

Thr root of it is something I agree with as a commentator. Use as few pronouns as possible because it is almost always better to say a wrestler's name than to he-she-they them. Much of audience does not intimately know all the wrestlers, especially on the indies. Naming them repeatedly helps a lot.

A lot of it was mysoginy, but people still aren't ready to hear that.

No it wasn't. It was a music video made for a teenager as a birthday gift from a service that wrote and recorded songs for kids and produced videos for them. It was supposed to be fun. But millions of ghouls decided to turn the hatred machine on her specifically.

I was just talking about this with some friends! New Age and that one CD of Gregorian chants! I remember seeing the ad for PURE MOODS endlessly! Emma! Lorena Mckennit! The theme from the X-Files!

Totally cool. This is Bluesky. I can actually give ppl the benefit of the doubt here, and I can talk freely knowing people will generally do the same for me. And if not, the block feature actually works well here! But for the most part everyone's cool.

I played piano as a kid and drums as a teen until I was like 25 but I fell off. Stopped being in bands. I did take several music classes in college though. Basic theory and history and some cultural stuff. I think we disagree on some stuff but you seem cool.

I definitely get that you connect with the music. I meant that you know more as something you realize eventually and I figured you did. As far as being a multi-instrumentalist, that's fantastic and yes it will definitely color how you interact with music.

That's great. At some point you have to make the decision to actually get into music and not just be a fan of bands, ya know? Or you don't have to. I know a couple of Swifties who I swear never ever listen to anything else. And these are guys in their 20s!

Journey in particular was one of the most hated bands of the 90s. The most uncool thing possible was to be into Journey. Anyway I saw them a couple years ago touring with Def Leppard and they KILLED.

Doc Diamondfire @docdiamondfire.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
That's what happened to a lot of 80s music. In the 90s, the 80s was the most uncool thing in the world. Then, as the 90s started turning into the 2000s, 80s retro got huge and all these bands like Journey and Poison and stuff went from half-full theaters to packed arenas again.

I still kind of hate the Strokes though. But it's more that their hipster scene destroyed Williamsburg and reshaped it into an expensive bar, hipster paradise where everyone was too cool to admit to liking anything, even the stuff they were into. It was disturbing to watch.

I hated plenty of stuff in my 20s. I look back on that and see it as a waste of mind power, but it's also so common I can't beat myself up over it too much.

Doc Diamondfire @docdiamondfire.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
You'd be surprised. I'm 44 and I just started coming around heavy to some stuff from the late 80s and 90s that I was never into before.

I'm not too concerned with sincerity. I'm concerned with action, and that was an action. A step in the right direction. To your point though, one step forward doesn't mean much when otherwise you're running backwards like Google has been in terms of just being evil.

That's a popular opinion and I always thought it was wrong. Corporate shareholders don't care about dislikes. They care about dollar amounts. Look at how much stuff today people clearly hate but stockholders keep buying. No, I think it was to mitigate liability in case hate campaigns got hot.

It's hated like a great villain is hated. People LOVED to hate it. If they didn't, they wouldn't have kept it going for years. Yes, most disliked. I'm so happy they took that away. It was used primarily for malice and we have enough of that online thank you very much.

At least one of the kids I saw was alone, just walking down the street idly singing to herself. I'm not doubting your stories! I'm saying it was such a meme and so many people kept playing it and showing everyone and singing it that I can't believe it was as hated as everyone says.

Doc Diamondfire @docdiamondfire.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
People hated it to 9 figures worth of views.

Nothing wrong with that, by the way. Happens to everyone as they get older and calm down.

I walked by a junior high school at its peak and at several points on the block, different walking kids were singing it out loud, idly. They loved it. Maybe they wouldn't admit it, but I think that was just burgeoning Gen Z cynicism. One day Zoomers will realize they loved everything they hated.

She was 13 when she made it and it immediately became both the biggest hit among kids in the country and hated openly by everyone else. She got death threats. Had to leave her school. Horrible stuff.

The studios still think this way. They still try putting Dwayne Johnson in any piece of crap movie thinking his name will drive tickets. And that worked for a long time! But it hasn't in almost a decade and they haven't figured it out yet. And that's not even a knock on Rock! He just hit his limit.

As far as I'm concerned, Rebecca Black has earned the right to make whatever music she wants and succeed after all the hateful shit she went through for Friday, which would have been a #1 hit if more modern measuring methods were in place. Also Sugar Water Cyanide is a bop.

I was sad when Odessa closed. I had a lot of late night impulse feasts there. And a lot of nice weekend breakfasts (they hadn't invented brunch yet).

We will by getting as many votes as possible in as wide of a variety of states as possible. The idea that everyone stays D or R is something that is a popular idea online but in the real world a lot of people vote by candidate, not party or even on issues.

Doc Diamondfire @docdiamondfire.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
That's a fun thought but no, in a general election involving almost 400 million people you want the opposition's voters to switch and vote for your candidate. Doesn't mean you have to forgive or like them, but absolutley yes you want their votes. It's drippy dull but it's 100% true.

Saying something like that implies that you know you have some agency in the matter, at least in theory. This is true, and can be a scary thing to dig into but I promise you figuring that out for yourself is the path to not being miserable all the time.

Also do not underestimate musicians across the political and genre spectrum standing up for each other in the name of free speech. People forget the PMRC hearings were shocked at John Denver standing up for what were seen as unacceptable lyrics.

I love listening to music I know because it was just around when I was younger but I never really let hit me for various taste and social reasons. A lot of total mainstream 80s hits I was too cool for in the 90s and too metal for in the 2000s are hitting me GREAT right now.

Zohran has a wide enough appeal that his border is people who listen to stupid podcasts but don't really have big ideas of their own. He can go on them and spread his. It's good.

Sometimes I realize Youtube has whole categories of stuff like this. It's amazing. I like old concert videos. Also, old sports stuff like this sometimes. I see old Knicks games and stuff. It makes me appreciate modern HD when they how the score in a huge lower third graphic intermittently.

People took away from the Brian Cage interview "LOL we know you're juicing" and completely ignored the honest and reasonable point he made about how he has been doing it under a doctor's supervision for years and he isn't just shooting up steroids endlessly like he was Billy Graham or some such.

One thing I think the wellness policy did that was great that took a few years abut absolutely trickled down to other leagues and most of the indies is the cessation of gratuitous and direct head trauma. People aren't beaning each other with metal objects all the time anymore, and that also matters.

The WWE Wellness policy was not perfect, but it was a gigantic success in and out of WWE. Some of it is steroids, but truth is most guys taking T these days are, in fact, getting TRT under doctor's supervision. They aren't buying shady tren from the biggest guy at the gym anymore and that matters.

Holding yourself in that position all the time is terrible for circulation, especially if you're packed in tight for hours.

I think the mass of antivaxxers spouting bullshit about the vaccine doing damage has acted as a haze, obscuring the fact that the long term effects of getting covid itself could be heart damage. There is evidence that points to that, but it is still being studied.
