Here's the part I'm talking about, btw:
While consumption may be driven by economic growth and prosperity, it has severe effects on the natural ecosystem. Three hours by plane from Australia’s largest city, Sydney, lies the pristine Lord Howe Island—a UNESCO-listed site known for its coral lagoons, subtropical rainforest, and large breeding colonies of flesh-footed shearwaters, commonly known as mutton birds. Yet, even in this remote setting, ocean plastic pollution has reached such levels that mutton birds make a crunching sound when they are held, due to compacted plastic pieces inside their stomachs. In some cases, plastic can make up 20% of a bird’s body weight.7

Bit ironic coming from the guy who supports negative gearing and CGT discounts on residential property
Text from a news article: “Cobungra lies in the electorate of the federal opposition agriculture spokesperson Darren Chester.

He said the decision to allow the proposal distorted the market for anyone who wished to buy land for traditional agricultural purposes.

The individual or the farming organisations who might want to come along and continue to use the property for just mainstream agricultural production will be outbid by an organization relying on government subsidies and schemes to fund their purchases,” Mr Chester said

Full draft manuscript goes off to the publisher this evening. Roughly 66,000 words + references, tables and diagrams. Here's the back cover blurb: [Note - book title may change prior to publication!]
Designing Circularity: Meeting human needs within ecological limits
The challenge of the twenty-first century is not simply how to consume more sustainably, but how to meet human needs while reducing pressure on global ecosystems. Design Circularity addresses this challenge by reframing circularity as a systems challenge: how to achieve the same - or better - outcomes for society with less material and energy throughput.

At the centre of the book is a systemic design framework for coordinating circular initiatives across policy, organisational and business models, services, products, buildings and infrastructure. Drawing on research, practitioner insights, and real-world examples from around the world, it shows how governments, businesses, not-for-profit organisations and designers can work across these levels to reshape the conditions that influence production, consumption, and resource use.

Through the lens of material intensity, Designing Circularity challenges readers to consider not only how products are made, but how systems are organised to meet human needs. Written for researchers, practitioners, designers, industry leaders, and policymakers, it offers a practical pathway towards creating collective abundance, systems stewardship, and long-term resilience within ecological limits.

As predicted, the ALP are increasing spending on the military (announced last week) and cutting spending on NDIS. Chalmers was also talking about reducing governance and compliance costs - i.e. 'cutting red tape'; and I feel like I'm in a game of Neoliberalism Bingo

The US is not a serious country. The number of different ways in which this elected official is emblematic of that fact blows the mind.
Screenshot of a post to X from a US congressman. Post reads:
“Proud to cosponsor this bill.

In America we cherish dogs - loyal companions, beloved family, and yes, true gifts from God.

Any foreign ideology that tries to strip Americans of our right to own dogs is not welcome here.”

The post is responding to another congressman: “I am proud to introduce the Protecting Puppies from Sharia Act”

As climate patterns shift, rainfall patterns change with them creating all sorts of challenges for rural communities. And all at once. Queensland getting another deluge while Victoria suffers with drought.
Headlines from the ABC News site:
- “Heavy rains for almost 300mm for parts of Queensland with much of the state in flood watch”
- “Water woes for livestock producers [in Victoria] as drought drags on”
