We run a stone soup draft every 3 months in Columbus. Tonight is the night here as well!

Dave Nolan @dnolan08.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

To be clear, I love gold cards! I just think it’s easy to get carried away if you are not intentional about limiting them. I always look for mono color cards that can serve as like an 80% substitute of what a gold card can do. Keep the gold slots for truly unique effects!

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you have too many gold cards in your cube. #mtgcube

LOOKING FOR SPONSORS! Trying to do something much more ambitious next year but venues in Boston are prohibitively expensive. If you can help in any way or know someone who can, lmk! RTs appreciated ❤️

I like Heartfire Hero. Feels like keeping a low curve is super important in this cube. It’s not hard for Hero to get out of control here.

Played a little cube at a local brewery this afternoon. We had 7 and drafted GUT. Went 3-1 with a sweet UW Curiosity style deck! #mtgcube

Tomorrow is the Columbus Community Cube Fest!! C4AC Obscura and playing @worklifevalue.bsky.social Mysterybox at Boston Cube Party last month served as inspiration for me to bring a Mystery Cube to our event. This is not an original design, but a copy of an existing, super cool cube 👀 #mtgcube

Day 1 of Boston Cube Party in the books! Didn’t do quite well enough to land in the top 64, but I’ll be back today for a few more drafts. Meeting so many great people & having an awesome time! (Naya deck was a 🏆 in Doubleton Synergy. 1-2 with Esper in Cogwork Combo. 1-1 in Bun Magic with UR Tempo)

In this photo, only the 2 cycling duals, Ash Barrens, and the Psionic Blast. I didn’t have a theme for my overall contribution, just brought cool cards

010

Dave Nolan @dnolan08.bsky.social · 26/03/2026

They were brought by the same person, yeah. I did pack 1 pick 1 the Pact and then looked for ways to re-use it throughout the draft. Opened Offering in pack 3 and passed it, assuming it would wheel since I was probably the only one who wanted it 🙂

Dave Nolan @dnolan08.bsky.social · 16/02/2026

I can’t speak to Eldrazi, but madness/discard can definitely work in peasant. The trick is to use more than just cards with madness. Marauding Mako and Ivora are good payoffs for just discarding in general. Cards that want to be in the graveyard work as well, Squee, Anger, reanimator targets, etc

Dave Nolan @dnolan08.bsky.social · 05/02/2026
