Time to revive my SoM project. This is such an idiotic way to shoot yourself in the foot it's insane. Perfectly reasonable alternatives exist, but they decided to be HP...

Maker Faire Hannover Post 2: @dmytroengineering.com helped me unbrick an MSO-X 3034A! NAND flash corruption is a known issue and repairs are well-documented, but we came up with a method that uses ethernet to load the flash, plus this gives us an opportunity to bypass future NAND degradation!

If anything it's a testament to what can be done with even a simple and old ISA if it's overclocked enough and the tooling is well understood.

I believe PCI-E does quite a bit of training and optimization on startup (see: www.ti.com/lit/pdf/snla... ) so it can remain stable even in quite bad conditions.

Don't worry about it too much, it's quite fault tolerant, all of the below worked at full speed just fine.

I was thinking of powering the MCU directly without any battery at all, or a small MLCC bank maybe.

It's a fairly modern Lenovo ThinkPad the MCU on the other end will draw 3mA in its peak so it can even work through a pull-up with some capacitors. In practice tho I'll just attach the board in various standby power supply rails and see what happens.

I'm pretty sure KiCAD has an importer for that built in, although there might be some quirks. At least there are reasonable workarounds for them: hackaday.com/2023/07/01/i... Although that was 3 versions ago surely most of the issues must be fixed by now...

I highly recommend you give KiCAD a try. It's gotten very good recently to the point where some of my die hard Altium friends switched to it now. And because it's FOSS, nobody can ever take it away from you which is the biggest win!

Just connecting a client with a 10Gbit NIC to my router's 10Gbit Ethernet interface causes the average power draw of the entire rack to jump up by 3-4W. Not even routing traffic, just having a 10Gbit link in general.

it's this circuit: www.radiolocman.com/shem/schemat... but much faster! delay is adjustable between 0 and 1 μs and the output pulse is 10 ns (available in both polarities) a 12-bit DAC controls the delay, so the delay should be adjustable in steps of 250 ps
